merseyrail sound station festival 2014

Saturday 8th November sees the culmination of 2014’s MERSEYRAIL SOUND STATION PRIZE, an award designed to give an emerging Merseyside artist an invaluable head start in the music industry. The winning artist will work over 12 months with a team of music industry professionals, learning everything they need to know to best equip them for a long, successful career in the music industry. They will also record with former Joy Divison and New Order Engineer Michael Johnson and receive a year of FREE Merseyrail travel.

The one day MERSEYRAIL SOUND STATION FESTIVAL on 8th November will feature 10 artists, chosen from the 100+ entries to the Merseyrail Sound Station Prize over the past six months. The finalists are –

SHE DREW THE GUN (shedrewthegun.com)
EMILIO PINCHI  (soundcloud.com/emiliopinchi)
SUNSTACK JONES (www.sunstackjones.com)
DAVE O’GRADY (daveogrady.com)
THE RAGAMUFFINS (theragamuffins.bandcamp.com)

The Merseyrail Sound Station Prize is part of the innovative, Merseyrail Sound Station platform and is here to celebrate emerging new music from Merseyside. Each month sees a free podcast available to download from MerseyrailSoundStation.com and iTunes, featuring exclusive live sessions with some of the region’s most exciting new bands, the latest new sounds from across the Merseyrail network, and breaking new music news from Liverpool.

The monthly podcast is presented by Jay Hynde: “Over the past eight months we’ve featured some of Merseyside’s most exciting new artists on the Merseyrail Sound Station Podcast, with brilliant bands such as Hooton Tennis Club, The Tea Street Band, Bird, Esco Williams, The Mono LPs and Filter Distortion. We can’t wait for the Merseyrail Sound Station Festival at Moorfields Station on 8th November. Ten amazing artists all playing inside one of our city centre train stations, who wouldn’t be excited at the prospect of that?!”

The Merseyrail Sound Station Podcast is recorded at Tankfield Recording Studio, based at Fallen Industries Studios, Wirral, with esteemed Record Producer Michael Johnson. Michael has previously worked with artists such as New Order, Soft Cell and Joy Division. Michael will be joined by members of the editorial team from Liverpool music bible, Bido Lito! Magazine, as well as professional across Liverpool’s music industry, to judge the final winner.

Maarten Spaargaren, managing director of Merseyrail, said, ‘Trains may be far from the world of music, but we’re very keen to connect with our passengers and tap into the city’s love of music. It’s the third year we’re running Sound Station, this time working with local music events and organisations to give it extra profile and credibility.’

Over the last eight months, local musicians have been entering the Merseyrail Sound Station Prize by visiting one of the SOUND STATION UPLOAD LOCATIONS on the Merseyrail network and filming themselves performing an original track, before posting it on the Merseyrail Sound Station Facebook wall www.facebook.com/MerseyrailSoundStation. Merseyrail Sound Station has also popped up with live stages at some of the city’s best events this summer, such as Sound City, LIMF, Farm Feast, FLUX Festival, Africa Oye and Above The Beaten Track.

The MERSEYRAIL SOUND STATION FESTIVAL takes place at Moorfields Station on Saturday 8th November 2013. The shows starts at midday and entry is free. The festival will be followed by an Announcement Party at Hopskotch, Mathew Street, from 4pm.
