International Pop Overthrow starts Tuesday 25th May (Page 132)

The International Pop Overthrow returns to Liverpool on 25th May for eight days packed full of the best independent bands from across the city and around the world.

For the eighth year running Liverpool is proud to be the only city outside North America to host an IPO, and joins the list of some of the world's greatest music cities such as Chicago, Seattle, New York, and Los Angeles.

The event starts on Tuesday 25th May and finishes on Tuesday 1st June.

Every band playing is given two 30 minute slots, with all of the music taking place at the Cavern Pub, and the front and back stages of The Cavern Club - all on Mathew Street at the heart of the Cavern Quarter.

And the best news is that every single gig is free to enter!

In previous years the Liverpool Acoustic diary has listed the individual times of all the acoustic performers. However, with so many bands and musicians playing, this year we've added the full listings and will let you browse through the bands yourself and pick out the ones that take your fancy.

One of the coolest things about the festival is the ability to catch bands and musicians you've never previously heard of, so why not pick a few names at random and see if you can find a hidden gem or three?

Flying the flag for the Liverpool Acoustic scene are the likes of The Big I Am, Mike Badger, Maxi Dunn, Avant Gardner, Steve Roberts, The Good Intentions, and Tones of Home.

If you're free on Bank Holiday Monday 31st May then why not come along to the IPO to see the showcase being organised by the Association of Music Podcasting - musicpodcasting.org

Alan Carr (Darkhorse Radio) and Graham Holland (Liverpool Acoustic Spotlight & Insomnia Radio: Liverpool) have invited six bands to feature in a showcase of music from 12.00pm to 4.15pm at the Cavern Pub, and from 6.30pm to 10.45pm on the back stage of the Cavern Club.

The bands playing are The Hexmen, Major Major, Built On Tradition, Steve Roberts, Emerald Green, and The Freebies.

To celebrate AMP's first ever IPO showcase they've put together a free sampler CD including tracks from member podcasts from all over the world. It will be available on the official IPO merchandise table in the Cavern Club, and from Alan or Graham during the afternoon showcase in the Cavern Pub.

Replicated below is the full schedule for this year's Liverpool IPO, as published on the official website on 23rd May. Obviously things are subject to change over time (particularly if the likes of TBA don't turn up again...!) so do check out the most up-to-date list at internationalpopoverthrow.com/schedule-Liverpool-2010.htm
