BROOKS WILLIAMS AND AARON CATLOW

Support from Raphael Callaghan

Wednesday 2nd February 2022
The Atkinson Studio

Brooks Williams & Aaron Catlow bring their singular voices to the guitar and violin tradition with soaring melodies, heart-tugging counter-melodies and agile rhythms. Seamlessly connect Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Mediterranean overtones with technical brilliance, these two are masters of their respective instruments. Williams and Catlow met on tour in The Netherlands a couple of years ago. Later that same year, Williams invited Aaron to play with him on his 30th Anniversary album, Work My Claim. There was magic from the start.

Support is from Raphael Callaghan, a singer, harmonica and slide guitar player, and songwriter with his own style of acoustic blues, gospel and roots. He’s had years of experience playing solo and in various groups and bands, and has played with such luminaries as Alexis Korner, Bonnie Raitt and Eric Bibb.

Tickets £13 advance (+ bf) from The Atkinson or £15 on the door

St Micheal’s Sessions

RACHAEL JEAN HARRIS
JOE McADAM
ERNIE’S SHACK

Friday 4th February 2022
St Michael’s Church, Aigburth

The St Michael’s Sessions are multi-artist music events, bringing a musical smorgasbord to the heart of a grade-one listed church. The sessions kick off this February, and will take place on the 1st Friday of each month.

Rachael Jean Harris, Joe McAdam and Ernie’s Shack make up our line-up for Februarys Session.

Rachael Jean Harris carves a highly individual sound, blurring the lines between folk, jazz and indie, drawing from a love of adventurous writers such as PJ Harvey, Esperanza Spalding and Kate Bush and allowing a love of poetry and literature to shine in her thoughtful, evocative lyrics. The majority of her songs fall into rich themes surrounding the lives of people on the raw edges of existence – women in conflict zones, men in long term confinement; whilst her recent work takes on more personal themes as she discovers how journeys through grief, past relationships and new freedoms find solace and reverberation within the natural world.’Natural, intuitive and utterly spellbinding…”Her songs are beguiling and break all the rules…

Former lead singer with Cherryfalls and The New York Fund, Joe McAdam resides and performs in Manchester where he curates and hosts the legendary open mic show at The Whiskey Jar. Drawing influences from Americana, folk and country, Joe’s music sits comfortably alongside the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams and Bob Dylan.
Over the last 20 years, Joe has built a reputation as a passionate performer who leaves everything out on the stage and his between-song-banter brings humour and intimacy to each performance.’

Ernie’s Shack – During the first lockdown of 2020, and based in a sealed bunker in a top secret location, a trio of tune-smith’s gathered to contrive and concoct a blend of tricksy twisty oft times floaty instrumentals. Mixing jazz and folk melodies with more than a splash of improvisation, Ernie’s Shack sole intention was to stay sane, keep a positive vibration going, play whatever they wanted, and above all have fun. Ernie’s Shack comprises Parabhen Lad (Longfinger Bandits) on double bass, Charlie Mckeon (Pistachio Kid) on guitar, and Martin Smith (The Weave) on trumpet & Flugelhorn.

Tickets are £10 from Skiddle.
