Spotlight 99: Friday 27th September 2013 – Jo Bywater EP release

FRIDAY 27th SEPTEMBER 2013

LIVERPOOL ACOUSTIC LIVE

Jo Bywater will be launching her Chasing Tales EP at the View Two Gallery on Friday 27th September with support from four exceptionally talented female performers.

It’s been three years since the release of Jo’s “astonishing debut album Cycle Grace Pulse Break” (Ian D Hall, Liverpool Sound and Vision) and the time has been well spent writing and recording new songs and mastering the resonator guitar. The result is the Telling Tales EP, featuring Andy Jones (Just By Chance) on electric guitar and Blythe Cooper on cajon.

Joining Jo, Andy and Blythe at the EP launch will be Liverpool Music Award-nominated singer and pianist Anna Corcoran, Chester-based dynamic duo ME and Deboe, and Manchester songbird Little Sparrow.

Liverpool Acoustic’s Graham Holland says “We’re celebrating winning Liverpool Music Awards’ Live Music Night of the Year for the second year in a row with one of the best lineups we’ve had for a long, long time. In addition to the fabulous Jo Bywater, we’ve got three support acts that are so good any one of them could have headlined in their own right. This is set to be an extra special night at the View Two Gallery.”

Jo Bywater

JO BYWATER

Yorkshire-born, Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Jo Bywater assumes the from of an innovative and inspired musical force. Rhythmic, tactile, rockin’, poetry.
Jo independently released her debut album ‘Cycle Grace Pulse Break’ in December 2010. It captures both the whispering gentleness and dynamic power of Jo’s expression. Bluesy and captivating. As a result of positive feedback from magazines such as Americana, R2, Folk Radio UK and FATEA she has performed various sessions, a small selection of highlights being Songs from the Shed, Radio Merseyside, Bob’s Folk Show and Roots & Fusion.
Jo has played extensively across the UK and is a familiar face on the Liverpool music scene. Festivals include Beverley Folk Festival, Purbeck Folk Festival, Folkstock, London Folk and Roots Festival, Liverpool Music Week, Threshold Festival, International Pop Overthrow, Brighton, London, Liverpool and Manchester Prides, Hope Street Feast, Liverpool International Music Festival and London Vegan Festival.
Chasing Tales EP (released 27th September, 2013) is acoustic Blues slide guitar meets finger-picking brain food. With raw and finely-crafted beauty and a dark twist, soothed with harmonies, melodies and textured, it’s a worthy follow-up to its predecessor in creative growth. Guest performers are Andy Jones (Just by Chance) and Blythe Cooper. Mastered by Russell Cottier (Parr St. Studio), the EP is released in collaboration with Searching For Dandelions Label/Collective.
Anna Corcoran
ANNA CORCORAN
annacorcoran.comFemale Artist of The Year nominee at the Liverpool Music Awards 2013, Anna Corcoran has had a brilliant year so far. Despite being unsigned, and working entirely independently, Anna self released her debut EP ‘Anything Better’ in March this year. Her single The Show has received numerous plays on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6Music gathering the support of BBC’s Janice Long & Tom Robinson.

Graduating with a bachelor of music from Goldsmiths College in 2005, Anna became a regular on the late night piano bar scene of London holding residencies at many of the top exclusive venues, The Dorchester, The Ritz, RAC Club Pall Mall. Although this was a perfect environment to really hone her craft, Anna soon began to crave the ‘listening audience’ and the desire to create and perform her own compositions and original songs brought her back to her home city of Liverpool where her reputation as a not only a performer, but a songwriter is really gathering strength.
Autumn/Winter 2013 will see Anna release her second EP.
ME and Deboe
ME AND DEBOE
meanddeboe.com

A simple combination of two voices and two guitars make up ME and Deboe: a cocktail of infectious rhythms, haunting melodies and clever lyrics is the potent result. Classically trained Mercy Elise and self-taught Sarah Deboe move effortlessly between powerful chords and delicate, percussive riffs to bring a stripped back and distinctly original sound to both their own music and their cover versions. Sharply observed, frequently witty lyrics are their trademark and brought to life by Mercy’s strong, raw contralto and Sarah’s softer, blue-eyed soul.
Both solo musicians in their own right, the duo has seen their star steadily ascend from its 2011 beginnings in Northwest England. Their growing reputation has taken their unique sound to over 300 gigs, radio performances and festivals across the UK. Notable venues and appearances include North London’s iconic Proud Camden and Earl Court’s’s The Troubadour; Liverpool’s Cavern Club; the Acoustic Festival of Britain; The Liverpool Music Awards; BBC Radio Merseyside; and supporting Miles Kane at Heebie Jeebies, Liverpool.
They released their debut EP ME and Deboe in 2013, with the single I For You Gave making BBC 6 Music Fresh On The Net: Fresh Faves selection. Among others, they cite Bob Dylan, Kate Bush, The Beatles and Skunk Anansie as their key influences
Little Sparrow
LITTLE SPARROW [Manchester]

Lyrically intriguing with tenderly beautiful vocals, the songs of Little Sparrow are projected with honesty and passion presenting every word as a truth burning from deep within her heart. As captivating to watch as she is to listen to, her delicately emotive use of expression mirrors the sincerity of her delivery making her someone not to be missed. Little Sparrow’s delicate acoustic folk songs are created with a combination of flawless vocals, strings, guitars, percussion and tender harmonies.
An ever growing number of live performances have seen her recently support – amongst others – Liam Frost, Melanie Pain (Nouvelle Vague), Kyla La Grange and Simone Felice as well as featuring at festivals including Dot To Dot, Rochdale Feel Good Festival and Chorlton Festival. She has also recently played ‘Rock the Docks’ at Salford’s prestigious Media City complex, and is currently working towards completion of what will be her eagerly awaited debut album.

Simon Raymonde (Owner of Bella Union Records, former member of the CocteauTwins)
“A breath taking vocalist delivering original and beautifully crafted songs”
Chris Hawkins (BBC 6 Music):
