Liverpool Acoustic Newsletter – November 2010

If you thought November was that dull month between Halloween and Christmas when nothing much happens, then think again.

  • The Liverpool Folk and Roots Festival is brought to you by the guys behind the successful Family Folk-up nights. It’s running from 21st to 28th November at various venues throughout the city, and full details can be found at liverpoolfolkandroots.com. Artists due to appear include Denis Jones, Skirm and Danny Cameron, Hughie Jones, Chris Wood, and the Loose Moose String Band. There will be a news item later in the month with the full line-up of events and artists.
  • The International Guitar Festival of Great Britain takes place across Wirral from 3rd to 28th November. There’s plenty of variety and choice for guitar lovers everywhere, and enough acoustic events to keep us all happy. Full details can be found at bestguitarfest.com. Acoustic highlights of the Guitar Festival include Nick Harper (6th), Peter Price (11th), Alison Smith (12th), T-J & Murphy (13th), Joe Brown (14th), Tom Paxton (18th), Tom Doughty (19th), and Gerry Murphy (21st).
  • And sticking with the guitar theme, the Merseyside Guitar Show takes place on Sunday 28th November at Aintree Racecourse’s Conference Centre. Full details from guitarshows.co.uk/liverpool.htm
  • We’ve already told you about Liverpool Music Week (through to 25th November) on the news and reviews page here. Full details can be found at liverpoolmusicweek.com

LIVERPOOL ACOUSTIC LIVE

The next Liverpool Acoustic Live takes place on Friday 26th November at the View Two Gallery, and this one we’re really excited about.

Liverpool Acoustic is proud to present the amazing Jon Gomm in his first Liverpool concert for over four years. Leeds-based Jon is a singer-songwriter and virtuoso performer who uses one acoustic guitar to create drum sounds, bass lines and melodies simultaneously. His songs draw on a range of influences and styles, including blues and soul.

Support on the night is from Mark Wilson, St Helens’ finest percussive guitarist, and Megan Thomas, winner of Open Mic UK 2009 and Make It Break It 2010.

Entry on the door will be £6, but you’ll save money by ordering tickets in advance for £5 from wegottickets.com

Doors open at 8.00pm with music starting at 8.30pm. The night finishes at 11.15pm.

Facebook event is here.

DIARY NEWS

And here are this month’s movers and shakers. Take it away, Fluff.

You say goodbye…

  • Baby Blue tell us they no longer host an open mic night every other Wednesday.
And I say hello…
  • John O’Connell (former member of the legendary group Groundpig) has a regular Friday night gig at O’Neill’s on Slater Street. It starts at 7pm and he plays two sets. One Friday he won’t be playing O’Neill’s, however, is 26th November when he plays The Gladstone Theatre. Visit johnpig.com for more details.
  • Virginia’s Acoustic Haze is a new fortnightly open mic event at Ye Crack on Rice Street (off Hope Street). It’s first come, first served, 3 songs max, and encourages original music and tastefully arranged covers.
  • There’s a new weekly open mic hosted by The Talismen at The Clarence Pub in New Brighton every Thursday from 8.45pm to 11pm. Contact Mark Whiteley or Alan Jeacock on facebook for more details.
As always, if there’s anything we’ve missed from the diary then drop us a line and we’ll add it.
