This month’s Liverpool Acoustic Live takes place on Friday 28th May at the View Two Gallery on Mathew Street and features four acoustic acts, three from Liverpool and one from Derbyshire.

James M Carson is a newly-emerged young singer-songwriter with a mellow blend of folk, blues, rock and country. Often melodic, sometimes dark, always honest.

Rachael Dunn has only been performing since 2008 and has already launched an album – Alpha Ghost – and supported The Animals and The Acoustic Strawbs.

David Gibb is a young acoustic artist from Derbyshire whose music has been described as “good old-fashioned jovial, quirky, British pop music” by Sandman Magazine.

The Southbound Attic Band make a welcome return to the View Two Gallery after their successful appearance last year.

There are only 50 tickets available online for £4 in advance from wegottickets.com – when these are gone then entry will be limited to a small number of £5 tickets available on the door.

Doors open at 8.00pm with music starting at 8.30pm sharp. The night finishes at 11.15pm

James M Carson is a newcomer to the Liverpool music circuit who has been squirreling away his songs for a rainy day. That rainy day has come, and filled with a belief in the material he has taken to the road to share these best kept secrets with fellow lovers of pure, simple and traditional song writing.

A mellow blend of folk, blues, rock and country. Often melodic, sometimes dark, but always honest.

Liverpool born singer songwriter Rachael Dunn emerged tentatively onto the local acoustic scene in may 2008 with a handfull of songs.

After spending time playing live and trying out open mic nights, Rachael had the opportunity to support The Animals and The Acoustic Strawbs, this inspired her to record some tracks.

Writing prolificaly through 2009 she then teamed up with producer/songwriter Alex Dunford and released her debut album Alpha Ghost in February 2010, which is available now from Amazon and iTunes

‘Rachael Dunn dazzles with warm, sweet, intoxicating vocal and gorgeous insightful songs’. Jade Wright – Liverpool Echo

David Gibb is a young acoustic artist from Derbyshire whose music has been described as “good old-fashioned jovial, quirky, British pop music” (Sandman Magazine).

Growing up firmly attached to the Derby music scene, David has honed his skills playing and touring with local bands and over the last couple of years has focused on his solo material. After self releasing his debut EP in November 2007, he set about piecing together a group of close friends to support him on the road and in the studio.

2008 proved to be an exciting year for David on the airwaves and on the road, receiving national airplay on BBC Radio 2, as well as playing a live collaborative session for BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens with award winning hip hop producer Baby J. On the road he has supported the likes of Sam Isaac, Peggy Sue and Frank Turner.

With the band firmly in place he travelled to Wales to record his debut album – Apple In My Teeth – during the summer of 2008. The first single to be taken from the album; ‘The English Retreat’ was released January 12th 2009 through independent label Fuse Records and sold out of 100 limited edition copies in just two weeks.

Apple In My Teeth can be bought from iTunes, Amazon, hmv.com, and Play.com – and the single This Young Boy is also on iTunes.

The Southbound Attic Band is a duo comprising of songwriter Barry Jones on vocals and guitar, and Ronnie Clark on bass and slide guitar. Together they play an addictive blend of Americana-tinged folk rock based around Barry’s excellent original songs – modern songs with a traditional feel.

The band’s recent EP is called The Willows Suite, and contains a selection of songs inspired by the book The Wind in the Willows, interspersed by short extracts read from the book.

It can be bought at the following places:-

The band can be seen playing live at the Crosby Music Festival on Sunday 30th May.

Lizzie Nunnery has storiest to tell and a voice to make you listen.

Following the release of her EP, “Hungry,” in 2008, she played a host of venues and festivals across the UK including support for Chris Wood, J.D Souther and Jim Moray. She’s made several appearances on BBC Radio including a live performance on Radio 3. Her debut album – Company of Ghosts – was released by Fellside Recordings on April 26th, 2010. You can read the Liverpool Acoustic review here.

She is also an award winning playwright, with her most recent stage play “Intemperance,” receiving a 5 star review in The Guardian. Her play with songs, “The Singer”, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in November 08 and she co-composed the soundtrack to her short film, “Monkey Love”, broadcast on Channel 4 in September 2009.

“The listener’s mesmerised by the quality of rather vulnerable enchantment in her fragile tremelo, which is complimented by the delicate, often weirdly toyshop nature of the accompaniment…There’s a touch of Kate Bush in Lizzie’s resolute (yet quite natural) eccentricity.” David Kidman, Properganda magazine

“‘Company of Ghosts’ is a scintillating collection of new songs that reach into the very soul… full of powerful meaningful lyrics and sang with the most wonderfully sublime enchanting voice that falls somewhere between Kate Bush and Dolores Keane.” Martin Mannering, The Irish World

“Hugely impressive lyrics and delicate acoustic backing… the whole production and feel of the disc is much more than you’d expect from a debut release. She’s certainly a real talent, and one to watch for the future…” Neil Pearson Fish Records/Shrewsbury Folk Festival

Company of Ghosts is available to buy from the following places. Fellside Recordings
