Only Child with Liva String Quartet this Friday

Liverpool Acoustic are pleased to announce a special evening of music when Only Child will be performing with Liva String Quartet in the View Two Gallery‘s intimate performance space.

Also playing this coming Friday 26th April 2013 at the Mathew Street venue is local singer-songwriter, and member of The Wooltones, Rob Clarke. Completing the lineup is Berlin-born, London-based Roxanne de Bastion who returns to Liverpool as part of a UK tour for her debut album The Real Thing.

Only Child is a collaboration between Alan O’Hare (ex-The Trestles) and Laura McKinlay (Bill Ryder-Jones, Bird), alongside a loose collective of Merseyside’s most intuitive musicians. “The idea for Only Child crystallised for me at an acoustic gig at the View Two,” reveals O’Hare. “Our bass player, Vanessa Murray, also recently won the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge and I met Jon Lawton of Crosstown Studios through Liverpool Acoustic – and we now record all our music with him.”

It promises to be quite a night. “There will be up to nine of us on stage at any one time,” says O’Hare. “I make music to be brought to life by a connection with other people. I can’t wait to hear what happens above the din of Mathew Street…”

Roxanne de Bastion‘s journey started when she set out on her own, leaving Berlin for London, equipped only with her guitar and a one-way ticket. Not knowing anyone in the capital she started playing as many open mic nights as she could in London bars and cafes, and travelling the country via bus and train to reach as many people as possible. Roxanne played for us in March last year and impressed us so much that we jumped at the chance of inviting her back for the tour to promote her debut album.

Liverpool born Rob Clarke represents the changing, acceptable face of 21st century folk music. Influenced by everyone from Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly right through to more current artists, Rob’s timeless and warm style endears him to any audience – and to those who wouldn’t normally listen to acoustic music. He writes songs about seemingly anything that still manage to be meaningful. Rob takes his art seriously but his understated modest style and dry wit bring the listener right into the heart of his music. Rob will be playing old songs, plus new ones from his third album About A Time, which once again showcases Rob’s songwriting and musicianship.
