Only Child – The Visit
The first of three Crosstown releases featured this month, The Visit is the new single by Only Child. This horn driven song literally came to Alan O’Hare in a dream. After a successful show at Tate Liverpool with a String Quartet, Only Child will be playing a handful of dates during the autumn/winter. John Jenkins – Tuebrook
Americana singer-songwriter John Jenkins has recently completed a UK Tour with Pippa Murdie to promote his new album Tuebrook (read the review). Recorded with Jon Lawton at Crosstown Studios, the record is an autobiographical concept about John’s childhood living in the Tuebrook area of Liverpool. Songs like William and Christopher Roberts recall characters from long ago. johnjenkinsmusic.com
The Family Wash – Dirty Laundry
The Family Wash is a country music and Americana collective set up by songwriter and musician David Nixon with featured guests Paul Dunbar and Naomi Campbell. Following a successful launch at Prohibition Recording Studios, their album Dirty Laundry is available to buy from all digital platforms (read the review). Jenny Colquitt – Without You
Hailing from Widnes, singer-songwriter Jenny Colquitt has had a busy year. Following the release of the album Something Beautiful (read the review), the artist has been a regular on the festival circuit and has been touring extensively. Her recent single Without You is an introspective piano ballad, which hits all the right notes. Influences range from Joni Mitchell to Alanis Morissette. jennycolquitt.co.uk
John Witherspoon – Showin’ Up, Startin’ Again
Local tunesmith John Witherspoon recently launched his new album Heart In, Head Out at EBGBS (read the review). However if you’re playing catch up with the artist, then you should check out his previous set Showin’ Up, Startin’ Again which came out at the end of 2020. A strong showcase for his distinctive voice, the set is highlighted by well crafted songs like Mr Lowdown and My Dad. johnwitherspoonmusic.com
Thom Morecroft – The Last Day You Left Home
Shropshire born singer-songwriter Thom Morecroft recently supported Only Child at Tate Liverpool. His current single The Last Day You Left Home is a short plaintive ballad (read the review) and will be included on his forthcoming album Waiting For Leo (released on 9X9 Records). The artist will be launching the album at Future Yard in Birkenhead on Friday 15th September. thommorecroft.com
