Local singer-songwriter, pianist and saxophonist Helen Maw lights up the stage with her latest single release ‘Playing With Fire.’  The 23 year old singer played the Liverpool Digital Music Festival earlier this year and can sometimes be seen performing outside Watertone’s Book Store in Liverpool One. Although inspired by the likes of Amy MacDonald and Joan Armatrading, her voice and style of playing actually resembles Beverley Craven.

Recorded with Daniel Woodward at Whitewood Studios, ‘Playing With Fire’ is an emotionally charged ballad that showcases Maw as a burgeoning talent. A previously stripped down version of the track can be found on her EP ‘Everything In Between’, which was released earlier this year. Although this new version of the song features additional harmony vocals and string overdubs, it still retains the minimal production of the original; which featured mainly piano and vocal.

As an upcoming artist, Helen Maw slots in easily with local contemporaries such as Anna Corcoran and Nicola Hardman, which means she’s in very good company.
