Mike Ryan recently played a successful show with his band (now called The Salty Oranges) at Prohibition Recording Studios. The event featured support from Welsh duo Igloo Hearts. Mike and the lads recently launched their new single Talking Like An Elephant.
The Wirral based singer-songwriter delivers an upbeat commercial track, which has a good hook to draw the listener in. The title came from Mike mishearing the chorus and the phrase stuck; “I thought the lyrics were ‘talking like an elephant’, at first. I got it now… although I like talking like an elephant better.”
Mike is in full Elliot Smith mode here, although the instrumentation has more of a James Blunt vibe. The song benefits from a much fuller band sound, with the vibraphone adding a nice touch. The line up again features Mozin on keys and backing vocals, James Ryan on electric guitar and Noah Eastaugh on drums. The track was produced by Mike Eastaugh at Loft Studio 2. The song went down well live at Prohibition and should benefit from airplay on local radio.
Talking Like An Elephant by Mike Ryan is available on DistroKid and Bandcamp from Friday 20th March.
Mike Ryan and the Salty Oranges will be performing for The Blue Lantern Sessions at The Storyhouse in Chester on Tuesday 7th April. They will be supported again by Igloo Hearts.
