Peter’s Field: A Folk Balad of Peterloo
Sunday 15th March 2026
Music Room, Sugnall Street
Matinee – 3pm start
Evening – 8pm start|
Tickets £23 | £20 | £18 from liverpoolphil.com
Peter’s Field is a powerful musical chronicle that retells the events of 16 August 1819, when 60,000 peaceful protestors gathered in Manchester to demand voting rights. Led by radical speaker Henry ‘Orator’ Hunt, they were met with brutal force as magistrates dispatched cavalry to break up the crowd, resulting in at least 18 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Women were deliberately targeted in what became known as the Peterloo Massacre—a tragedy for which the authorities were exonerated, and which marked a century-long delay before working people gained the vote.
Created by Sean Cooney and performed with Rowan Rheingans and Sam Carter, Peter’s Field draws on years of research and hundreds of eyewitness accounts. The production features 19 original songs woven with spoken narrative, offering a deeply moving and historically grounded tribute to one of the most pivotal moments in working-class history. Catch this compelling show with two performances on Sunday 15th March at the Music Room.
