Artist – Oisín Hassan
EP – Be Free, Like A Bird
Released – 3rd June 2025
Reviewer – Allan Cairns, Liverpool Acoustic
This is Oisín Hassan’s Debut EP he has been on the folk scene for a while now opening for the likes of Oscar Harrison (from Ocean Colour Scene ) Katie Nicholas, Golden Shoals, Simon Fowler, Paul Dunbar and Xander & The Peace Pirates and has steadily built up a passionate following along the way.
This four track EP is produced by Robert Vincent who also plays 12 string guitar and sings harmonies and backing vocals and keyboard. Recorded and mixed by Jon Withnall (Coldplay and I am Kloot). The stunning cover art is by Theseasicksailor who Oisín calls one of the nicest and best guys in the business. He attributes his writing again to his soul mate and constant supporter Sweet Pea & Little Wolf.
Colours of The Rain and Hanging on A Wire both make reference to boats which maybe harks back to what Oisín used to do working on boats before he took up music full time. The songs speak of learning from mistakes and making new choices.
Whether it is the gentle guitar or the easy singing style or the sing along refrain lines I found myself listening to this EP a good number of times, and think when I get the CD it will be going in my car for those drives in the rain.
