Michael Weston King, one half of duo My Darling Clementine and former leader of UK Alt Country pioneers The Good Sons, launches The Struggle – his first solo album for eleven years – on Thursday 24th March with an intimate show at Prohibition Recording Studios.

Jeremy Serle from RnR Magazine described the new album as “a well-nigh perfect package” saying “every single one [of the tracks] is a masterpiece”.

Michael made four critically acclaimed albums in a seven year career with The Good Sons, which was celebrated by the double album, Cosmic Fireworks – The Best of The Good Sons (1994-2001).

From 1999 to 2010 he toured the world as a solo artist performing with the likes of Nick Cave, John Cale, Roger McGuinn, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Chris Hillman, Ron Sexsmith, and many more, and releasing six studio albums, three live albums and a career retrospective DVD along the way.

For the past ten years he has been half of the brilliant country soul duo My Darling Clementine with his wife Lou Dalgleish. Together they have toured widely across Europe and North America, and released five critically acclaimed albums, the latest being Country Darkness, a collaboration with Steve Nieve reinterpreting the songs of Elvis Costello.

The 24th March show is a rare, Michael Weston King solo appearance timed to coincide with the release of his new album. He will be joined by Welsh wunderkind, the brilliant Clovis Phillips with whom Michael has collaborated on the new album. Support is from acclaimed poet Oliver James Lomax.

This live show at the Arrad Street venue will feature a performance of the entire album as well as favourites from Michael’s 25 year, 19 album career, along with stories and anecdotes about his time touring with the likes of Nick Cave, John Cale, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Jackie Leven and many more.

Liverpool Acoustic is proud to partner for the first time with Prohibition Recording Studios to bring you a unique gig experience that puts you at the heart of the artist’s performance in an intimate, inner-city studio environment.

Places are limited and are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Tickets are £13.20 (including bf) from Prohibition Recording Studios.

Doors open at 18:30 and the show starts at 19:30. No under 18s allowed.
