Hurricane begins simply with Vanessa’s voice and a guitar, with Dan joining in harmony for the second half of the chorus. The second line which is ‘there are times when I can’t get you out of my brain’. It has to be said, that is true for this song, which is incredibly catchy!

After the first rendition of the chorus, the band kicks in further raising the upbeat feel of the song. It’s a love song full of metaphors painting the image of all great loves, that no matter the storms and challenges of life, there’s someone there to walk with you through them. It’s a song you can’t resist singing along to and that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Bob Harris playlist.

For anyone who has heard White Little Lies perform as a duo, this version of Hurricane maintains all that’s great about them – the fabulous harmonies, the complementarity of their voices and great guitar playing. The full band sound doesn’t detract from that at all and the piano playing from the broken down, penultimate chorus is a great addition. This is a great sign of what could follow on their upcoming EP.
