Happy birthday to us,
Happy birthday to us,
Happy birthday Liverpool Acoustic!
Happy birthday to us!!!!
On Saturday 19th April 2008 – exactly ten years ago today – the Liverpool Acoustic website went live for the first time.
Liverpool Acoustic was the brainchild of Graham Holland, local musician and (at the time) host of Come Strut Your Stuff at the Egg Cafe. The very first version had an online diary of local events, news and reviews from the local scene, and from May 2008 onwards a podcast.
Our original logo was a word cloud, and the homepage was pretty basic. The News/Reviews section and the Podcast were hosted on external blogs, and the diary of local events used a Google Calendar. It was all pretty basic, but it did the job!

Fast forward to 2010 and the homepage was more visual, with gig posters, podcast images and player, and a change from blue to orange. And we had links to our social media account – Twitter, Facebook, and the every-popular MySpace!

September 2010 saw the launch of our new branding, courtesy of James Wafer at Bluewhistle Design. You can still see the bold typeface and playful guitar across all of our current platforms.

2012 saw the News and Reviews blog and the Spotlight podcast move from externally-hosted sites into a brand new, all-encompassing WordPress site. This version had a more up-to-date feel with a carousel of featured and popular articles, and all of our news and reviews in blog format on the homepage.

And finally, in January 2016 we changed again. The new modular theme enabled us to create different sections for news, live reviews, music reviews and features.

In 2017 we retired the online diary of local events as it was impossible to keep it accurate and up-to-date. We’re currently looking at alternative ways we can enable people to share information about open mics, music sessions, and theatre shows. If you have any ideas yourself do get in touch using the contact form or leave a comment below.
Liverpool Acoustic founder Graham Holland said:-
“On our 10th birthday I’d like to thank every single person who has contributed in any way. Thanks goes to our wonderful reviewers, with special mentions for our most frequent contributors Stuart Todd, Ian D Hall, Peter Cowley, Alan O’Hare, Allan Cairns, Denis Parkinson, and Ian Sharp.”
“The Liverpool Acoustic website has come a long way since 2008, and as technology and the Internet moves on no doubt the site will be updated again using some newfangled feature. We’ve never been afraid of trying new things with our live music events and I don’t see why the website should be any different. Here’s to the next ten years!”
