Now touring with her third album Veritas, Louise Jordan’s music has been described as ‘a masterclass in songwriting’. Fusing award winning acoustic song writing with classical influences and a folk sensibility, Louise Jordan accompanies herself on piano and guitar to play original works and musical settings of literature as well as her own unique arrangements of traditional material.Veritas (released September 2014) features uplifting and empowering original songs In the End and If It Lasts as well as fresh arrangements of traditional folk songs Bushes and Briars and Garners Gay, an original song based on the story of Hampshire smuggleress Lovey Warne and an aria written by classical composer G.F. Handel. Veritas was released thanks to support from the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s Aspire Programme and an Emerging Excellence Award from Help Musicians UK.

‘A stirring, lilting grace’ The Telegraph

‘Absolutely, totally and completely, brilliant.’ Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2

‘Haunting and unforgettable’ **** The Sunday Express

Chris Callander is a singer-songwriter from Toxteth, Liverpool. Influenced by the songwriting of Tom Waits and the guitar playing of John Martyn and Ry Cooder, Chris writes moving songs about the lifeblood of hopes, dreams and everyday heartache. ‘Brilliant writing’ – Alan Bean, Lunar Astronaut.
This year Chris launched his first album ‘Ghosts of the Old Casartelli’ at the Liverpool 1 Bridewell, celebrating the occasion by making a rare appearance with a full band. Featuring stand-out guest spots from Stephanie Kearly on cello and viola and Helen Maher on accordion the album showcases the range of Chris’ songs from heartbreakers such as ‘Back in the Old World’ and ‘Baby Blue’ to stompers ‘Howl at the Moon’ and ‘ Silence Can Talk’. ‘Sincerely beautiful’, ‘when art is as good as this, any era’s ghosts would value it for what it is, utterly cool and aurally fulfilling.’ Liverpool Sound and Vision 9/10. Chris is a regular on Liverpool’s acoustic scene and has played festivals such as Threshold, LIMF, 2000 Trees and Glastonbury.

MOSS & JONES
mossandjones.co.uk
Moss & Jones (Ruth Moss and Marc Jones) are a pair of acoustic musicians from Merseyside. Inspired by the narratives of folk and the etherealness of mediaeval music; the humour of the 1890s music hall and the rousing sounds of the 1990s rave, the pair bring a quirky polish and wistful shine to original songs, traditional folk and imaginative covers.Moss & Jones use a variety of instruments to create their folk-inspired sound, from psaltery to bodhran; from piano to mandolin; from ukulele to violin, and more. They sing melodies, harmonies and melody and counter-melody.
The pair have played in a variety of surroundings; from intimate, unamplified house gigs to outdoor family picnics; from short-and-sweet sets at open mic nights to providing a full afternoon’s entertainment to paying punters. They’ve even played in a bandstand to provide background music for a fire-juggling show.Ruth and Marc got married (to each other) in one of their favourite gig venues, Liverpool’s Bombed Out Church, in September 2014; they played most of the songs themselves. When the pair aren’t arranging, writing, singing or playing music they can often be found introducing Ruth’s son to classic Doctor Who. They’ve even been known to dress up as the TARDIS between them and attend conventions.

Moss & Jones’s debut album, Amateur Astronomy, was released in June 2015, and is available from mossandjones.bandcamp.com

A bright star on the Liverpool acoustic scene, Esme Bridie blends her natural, honest vocal tone with strong and potent lyrical content beyond her years. Pure and emotive, her songs echo the reflective nature of the 1960’s with an additional contemporary touch.

If you get the chance, please support your local artists by joining their mailing lists, liking their facebook pages, following them on twitter, leaving them comments, going to their gigs, and buying their music direct from them where possible. The Liverpool Acoustic Spotlight is produced and presented by Graham Holland and Stuart Todd on behalf of the Liverpool Acoustic website, and is a proud member of the Association of Music Podcasting. The theme music alternates between King of the Faeries by Andrew Ellis from his CD Midnight On The Water, and Solid Ground by Neil Campbell.
