November 2014 is a busy month for music in Liverpool and the Greater Merseyside area with Mellowtone’s 10th birthday celebrations, two Liverpool Acoustic events, and the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain at various venues in Wirral. LIVERPOOL ACOUSTIC OPEN MIC @ SOUND FOOD AND DRINK
Liverpool Acoustic’s weekly open mic is now oversubscribed on a regular basis. The popular event takes place every Monday at Sound Food and Drink on Duke Street. Alternate weeks are hosted by Liverpool Acoustic’s Three Minute Hero (Stuart Todd) and K’s Choice Acoustic’s Derek King.
Each night starts at 8.30pm, runs through to 11.30pm, and features two or three booked acts alongside the open mic.
Musicians wishing to reserve an open mic slot can either turn up early and add their name to the list or be sure of a place by requesting a slot online on the facebook event page at facebook.com/liverpoolacoustic/events
LIVERPOOL ACOUSTIC SONGWRITING CHALLENGE
SHOWCASE FINAL
The Showcase Final for the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge takes place on the evening of Friday 21st November 2014
On the night the top ten songs as judged by Kaya Herstad Carney, Robert Vincent and Jon Lawton will be performed with an image of the work of art that inspired it projected onto the wall for everyone to see.
At the end of the night the Judges’ Award winners will be announced, and the audience get to vote for the Audience Favourite.
There will be performances on the night from two of our judges, Kaya Herstad Carney and Robert Vincent.
Tickets went on sale TODAY (1st November) and are available IN ADVANCE ONLY for £5 from wegottickets.com/liverpoolacoustic – Entry on the door will not be allowed without an advance ticket.
Doors open at the earlier time of 7.30pm with the music starting at 8.00pm sharp.
All money raised on the night will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care and Garston Animal Rescue in memory of Sharon Jones.

LIVERPOOL ACOUSTIC LIVE
After their knock-out performance on the Garden Stage at Above the Beaten Track, Only Child returns to Liverpool Acoustic Live at the View Two Gallery on Friday 28th November 2014.
The brainchild of former Trestles front-man Alan O’Hare and violinist Laura McKinley, Only Child has been winning fans and gathering plaudits ever since bursting onto the scene in 2012.
Joining Only Child on the night are Elijah James and Katie McLoughlin.
Tickets are available now in advance for £5 from wegottickets.com/liverpoolacoustic or for £6 on the night. Doors open at 7.45pm with the music starting at 8.15pm.

- Cohesion nights of music from Celtic Bazaar which took place on the third Friday of the month have come to an end. Vin and Jenny would like to thank all those who have supported it over the past year.

- Pogue Mahones Open Mic takes place every Thursday from 8.30pm to midnight at the Seel Street bar. It’s free to attend and there’s an acoustic guitar and mic provided for anyone who needs it. Ask for David Patterson if you want to play.

- Saturday 1st – Studio 2 Acoustic Live Lounge – Setting aside the generic event name (yet another ‘live lounge!) this is actually a top event. The music starts at 7.15pm, runs through to midnight and it’s free entry. - Thursday 6th – Songwriters at the Ship @ The Shipping Forecast – Mellowtone’s new monthly showcase of songwriting talent kicks off with Rosenblume, Joe Kelly, and SheBeat’s EP launch. Details here.

- Wednesday 12th – The Blue Project @ Floral Pavilion, New Brighton – An intriguing concept in which the Perri and Neil Quartet perform their reinterpretation of Joni Mitchell’s classic 1971 album Blue. Details on facebook here.
- Friday 14th – Acoustic Dustbowl presents Rick Shea @ View Two Gallery. American Rick Shea is this month’s guest, with support from hosts the Southbound Attic Band. Details here and tickets here.
- Friday 14th – Espresso Plus Acoustic @ Espresso Plus – The Rose Lane venue is launching its first acoustic music night with the hope of continuing it if it proves successful. Tickets for the first night are limited and can be found at seetickets.com or from the venue. Playing the opening night are Liam Toomey, Katie & I and Louise Quasie-Woode.
- Saturday 15th – Gary Edward Jones Album Launch @ St George’s Hall Concert Room – Launching his new album The Cabinet Maker, with support from Songwriting Final judge Robert Vincent. Full details from garyedwardjones.com

- Friday 21st – Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra @ The Kazimier – If you don’t manage to get tickets for the Songwriting Challenge Showcase Final then we recommend heading on down to The Kazimier to join Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra when their winter tour comes into town. - Saturday 22nd – Phil Cool and Joe Martin @ The Arts Centre, Edge Hill – Phil Cool maybe better known for his award winning TV comedy shows of the eighties and nineties, but Phil has always had a desire to sing and perform his own songs to an audience. His songs can be both serious and funny and you can be sure that there will of course be a generous proportion of the unique Cool comedy on offer. Joe Martin is a singer who has a unique flair for performing his own original material. Many of Joe’s influences can be heard in his writing from artists such as The Beatles, Paul Simon, Don McClean, John Mayer and John Smith. Tickets from www.edgehill.ac.uk/artscentre
- Wednesday 26th – Mellowtone Ten Years Birthday Party @ Leaf – This celebration of a decade of Mellowtone goodness will be free, although you’ll still need a ticket to get in. Monday 8th – Michael Chapman & James Blackshaw @ Leaf – Mellowtone presents revered folk musician Michael Chapman who’ll be performing with guitar expert James Blackshaw. Support is from Cabin in the Woods. Details on facebook here and further info on the way in a news article soon.
