LIVERPOOL ACOUSTIC LIVE

Liverpool Acoustic Live this month sees us celebrating our 4th birthday at the View Two Gallery. It’s taking place on Friday 22nd February 2013, and once more we have a fantastic, varied lineup for acoustic music lovers to enjoy.

  • The Mono LPs – Incredibly talented, incredibly popular, and incredibly busy – we’re made up to have them headlining our special birthday event with a special acoustic set.
  • Paul Liddell – all the way from sunny Sunderland, singer-songwriter Paul is an accomplished performer who is bound to impress.
  • Tom George – poet, musician, writer, editor, dreamer (no necessarily in that order), Tom is at the heart of Liverpool’s creative community. No stranger to the View Two Gallery, it’s always a pleasure to welcome him back.
  • and introducing 15 year old Niamh Jones – recommended to us by Pat Wordley at Woodwards Wine Bar in Formby, Niamh is another of the talented crop of young musicians making their first steps onto the local music scene.

Tickets are available in advance for £5 from wegottickets.com/liverpoolacoustic or for £6 on the night.

Doors open at 8.00pm. The event starts at 8.30pm and goes through to 11.00pm.

DIARY NEWS

Another busy Diary News section this month, with current events changing, old events ending, and new events starting. If you know of anything we’ve missed, drop us a line using the ‘Contact‘ page to let us know.

All change…

  • 2Track Acoustic’s Tuesday night event has moved in space and time (all without the aid of a TARDIS) and has regenerated as Karma at Java (on Westfield Street, St Helens). It now takes place every Thursday evening from 8.30pm, is free to attend, and all performers get a free drink. Headline acts get paid too! Contact James Vietch on facebook for more info. facebook.com/2tracksessions
  • Another event doing the old Doctor Who space and time thing is the Writers Showcase at Hannah’s (not to be confused with the Writers Club at Bier) which has regenerated as Pros and Coms every other Thursday (i.e. fortnightly) at Vinyl on Lark Lane. It’s the same mix of music, poetry and comedy, with resident comedian Binty Blair helping to spread the mirth. It’s 8.00pm to 10.30pm, is free to get in, and the first one is on Thursday 7th February.

You say goodbye…

  • It’s not often an event stops before it’s even started, but sadly Acoustic Dustbowl Too due to take place at D&N bit the dust (see what we did there?). The main Acoustic Dustbowl event on the second Friday of the month at the View Two is continuing – see the diary highlights below.
  • Wednesday nights’ The Basement Folk at Vinyl has come to an end. The organisers will be starting a new, monthly event at The Caledonia, and we’ll let you have more details when they arrive.

And I say hello…!

  • K’s Choice is a new, weekly showcase event featuring three or four of the finest acoustic artists every week. Hosted by Derek King, it takes place every Wednesday, from 7.30pm to 11.00pm, and is free.
  • Johnny’s Acoustic Caravan is a (relatively) new monthly event that takes place on the first Thursday each month at Camp and Furness on Greenland Street in the Baltic Triangle. The incomparable Johnny Sands hosts an acoustic night with special guests. It runs from 8pm to midnight, and is free. Details from campandfurnace.com
  • Lion Tavern Acoustic Session is a new monthly event that takes place on the second Thursday each month at the Lion Tavern on Moorfields. It runs from 8.30pm to 11pm and is free. The format is an informal singaround (no PA) featuring contemporary, traditional and original songs, plus occasional tunes and poems. If you’re interested then check out organiser Nev Grundy’s website rednev-rearm.blogspot.co.uk
  • The rather civilised sounding Cup of Tea open mic is a new, weekly open mic taking place every Thursday at Bar 43 (above Zanzibar) from 8.30pm to 1.00am. It’s being run by Jay Rehm and has its own facebook page facebook.com/CupOfTeaOpenMic – and despite the name of the night, the bar will be open!
