Welcome to 2012!
We’ve got so much to look forward to (or not, depending on your point of view), as this year sees a whole host of special events.
- The Olympics and Paralympics (Go, Team GB!)
- The extra bank holiday in June for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (thanks, Liz!)
- The European Football Championships (yet another opportunity for England to not win silverware)
- And, of course, 2012 heralds the end of the world (those Mayans never could count properly…) so please make an orderly queue at your nearest Ark.
2012 is also set to be another great year of music in Liverpool, with its network of dedicated promoters and venues gearing up to bring us some of the very best local, national and international musicians around.
LIVERPOOL ACOUSTIC LIVE
The next Liverpool Acoustic Live is on Friday 27th January 2012 at the View Two Gallery and features a feast of fantastic music.
- The Grande are Liverpool’s premier alt-country band, and are riding high having released their fantastic debut album last November. This is real good, feel good music from the band set to make a real impact in 2012.
- Geoghegan Jackson are duo Susan Geoghegan on guitar and Helen Jackson on vocals. Together they make great music, influenced along the way by John Martyn, Patti Smith and Nick Cave. Their new EP Parlour In The Sun is due to be released this month too on Lapwing Records.
- Simon Cousins is a singer-songwriter and musician, who was a member of Liverpool indie country rock band The Onset and folk rockers Ophiuchus. His solo work is in an acoustic, folk / country genre, described by Tim Peacock of Whisperin and Hollerin’ online magazine as “showcasing a fluid finger-picking style and a gentle, unobtrusive voice which nonetheless carries a determined presence.”
- Cherry Colby is an acoustic Singer/Songwriter, originally from Liverpool but now based in Yorkshire. ‘Liverpool Lights’, a track from her new EP, has already been featured on BBC Introducing this year and another track ‘Give You My All’, was featured on Yorkshire Coast Radio ‘Undiscovered’.
Doors open at 8.00pm with music starting at 8.30pm sharp. The night finishes at 11.15pm

FEBRUARY DIARY SNEEK PEEK
In our monthly newsletter we normally list just the events coming up in that particular month. However, there are two gigs on the first day of February this year that deserve a bit more advance notice, so here you go.
- Wednesday 1st February – Lindi Ortega @ Leaf – Canadian Lindi Ortega plays fine country-tinged Americana described by some as a blend of Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Emmylou Harris. Support on the night is from Marc Hannon (Springtime Anchorage) and Emily Cimber. Tickets are £6 in advance, with details here.
- Wednesday 1st February – Hard Times & Hard Travellin @ Grateful Fred’s, Formby Royal British Legion – Will Kaufman presents a live documentary on the life and music of Woody Guthrie, setting his songs in the context of 1930s America – the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, and the New Deal. Support is from the delightful Nadine Carina. Doors open at 7.45pm, music starts at 8.00pm, and tickets are £6.50 from here.
AND FINALLY…
We’re in the process of developing a brand new website for Liverpool Acoustic that will see all of our content brought together in the same place. So, if there’s something you think we should be adding or changing now would be a good time to tell us. You can get in touch by emailing contact@liverpoolacoustic.co.uk
