Has it really been a year since the Woody Guthrie Folk Club opened its doors for the first time? The debut night at the Ship & Mitre was so unexpectedly popular that tens of people were locked out of the upstairs room at the famous real ale pub situated in the shadow of the Dale Street flyover.
Since then the club has grown from strength to strength (and introduced a ticketing system!) and they’re celebrating their first anniversary this month with a change of date to accomodate a very special guest.
On Wednesday 16th February Will Kaufman will be bringing his Woody Guthrie show Hard Times & Hard Travellin to Liverpool. Will is an expert on Woody Guthrie and becomes the man himself to deliver Woody’s songs and the stories behind them. He’s won admirers far and wide, including the Guthrie family and Pete Seeger.
Tickets are £7.50 from wegottickets.com and because of the nature of the event no refunds will be availble to the small number of floor singers who’ll be given the chance to sing before the main event.
Further details about the club can be found at www.woodyfolk.co.uk including the change of date for March and the visit of Roy Bailey in April.
