This month’s Liverpool Acoustic Live takes place on Friday 25th June at the View Two Gallery on Mathew Street and features four acoustic acts, two from Liverpool, one originally from London, and one from Canada.

Lorelei Loveridge is a world traveller from Canada currently living in Manchester. Her music is influenced by periods living and working in Saudi Arabia and India, and she’s joined on the night by a collection of musicians going by the fitting name of The Harem. This will be Lorelei’s final UK gig before moving to Qatar in September.

Mark Byrne is a folk-tinged musician in the same mould as the likes of Nick Drake and James Taylor. Well worth seeing play live.

Pete Cunningham mixes punk, folk, rock, gospel, and any other genre he can get his musical teeth into. Pete is a real crowd pleaser and will leave you with a smile on your face and a tune ratttling round your head.

Dogstar, AKA Alicia Rose, is an author, yoga teacher, artist, historian, film maker, radio presenter, event organiser, and, of course, a songwriter and musician, who will be performing on the night in one of our new mini-spots.

There are only 50 tickets available online for £4 in advance from wegottickets.com – when these are gone then entry will be limited to a small number of £5 tickets available on the door.

Doors open at 8.00pm with music starting at 8.30pm sharp. The night finishes at 11.15pm

The facebook event is here.

Lorelei Loveridge is a published songwriter, performer, world-traveller, teacher, activist, arts manager, coach, consultant, writer, photographer, director of theatre, marketer, and jill-of-all-trades in the wonderful world of independent music making. She originally hails from Edmonton, Canada and is now based in Manchester, UK after 11 years in Saudi Arabia. In September 2010, Loveridge will move to Doha, Qatar – a tiny country bordering against Saudi Arabia and south of Iran across the Arabian/Persian Gulf.

Orderly Bazaar Records & Publishing is an artist-owned boutique label and multi-media publisher specialized in ‘roots, rock, ethnic, jazz, fusion and other travel-related shenanigans’, dedicated to building community wherever and by whatever means possible, on a humble mission to change the nature of things in the developing world.

‘Bakhoor’, a beautiful 15-song, 4-year album project recorded in India, Canada and Saudi Arabia, was released in the UK in 2008 and Canada in 2009. It is available at CDBaby.com and from iTunes and other fine retailers in the UK and Canada.

Lorelei will be performing at Liverpool Acoustic Live with her band members (from THE HAREM) Debbie Busby on darbuka drum and Zoe Mulford on banjo and percussion…with special guests.

Liverpool musician Mark Byrne writes deceptively simple and subtle songs delivered in a warm and consoling style. Mark’s debut album, Your Blues, will shortly be followed by Potato Radio a collection of songs that continues to use music and lyrics that observe the highs and lows of modern life.

Mark has performed at Cambridge, Saddleworth, Chester and Whitby Folk Festivals, Folk Clubs across the North West and many Liverpool acoustic venues. Most recently Mark has appeared at Out of the Bedroom at Leaf presented by Johnny Sands, Folk Against Fascism for Almanac & the Random Family at the Black-E, and Lilicots, North Devon with Nick Saunders.

As a professional musician Mark has worked at most of the Liverpool theatres and with several local singer songwriters including Paul Wilkes, T-J & Murphy, Charnock & Russell and currently John O’Connell.

Your Blues is available from iTunes.

Pete Cunningham is a Wirral based singer songwriter musician who has been playing the Liverpool circuit sporadically for just over a year to great feedback. He describes his pop/rock acoustic set as ‘Forrest Gump’s chocolate box’ cos you never know what you’re gonna get.

Whether his songs are about Bridget Bardot lookalikes, Bailiffs, Love or Airborne Diseases they are all upbeat, melodic and sung with a tongue planted firmly in cheek. Swinging from jazz to rock to Irish to punk there’s something for everyone.

He is currently songwriter/bassist for local rock/indie band Resuss, www.myspace.com/resuss, who are currently gigging around the North West and also have a demo CD with songs written by Pete.

He also recorded 2 EPs, called ‘Edna’ and ‘Erm Fingio’, with indie rock band ‘The Jellydeals’ and which were awarded 4 out of 5 stars in Guitarist magazine. In 2000 he also had a track, ‘Eddie and Cathy’, published on a compilation CD ‘by Loose Records when playing with acoustic duo ‘Flat Back Four’.

Alicia Rose aka ‘Dogstar’ originates from Tottenham, North London but split the smoke for Northern terrain back in 2001. Finding new innovation on the streets of Liverpool Dogstar Rose realised dreams she’d never even had.

A force of nature emerging from the shadows into the realms of TV, Film and Stage Productions, stand-up comedy, performance poetry and dance. The realisations continued and Dogstar then turned her articulate hands to songwriting, playing guitar and better still, beating the drums. Dogstar also hosts a number of eclectic music events in and around the city and enjoys nothing more than socialising with the very best musicians on the circuit. Every moment counts, honesty and happiness being the most important ingredients for a great cosmic soup of fulfilment.

Aside of music Alicia Rose has written debut novel ‘R.I.P’ a crime thriller about suicide photographer Justin James. She has co-created, written and illustrated children’s book ‘Colin The Marvellous’ and presents music and yoga on Kensington Vision 87.7fm aswell as running, swimming, ice-skating, motorcycling, skiing, windsurfing and driving lorries.

The dogstar* lives in relative bliss making dreamcatchers with three dogs, two guitars and a drumkit. She teaches Classical Yoga as a way of life.

Sarah Gillespie was born in London to an American mother and British father. She grew up in Norfolk, England – interspersed with numerous trips to Minnesota, where she soaked in the sounds of Bessie Smith, Bob Dylan, Cole Porter and early blues and jazz. From the age of 4, Sarah composed songs on piano, and then at 15 began playing guitar. At 18, she moved to the USA, busking in the streets and playing gigs.

On returning to London, she gained a first class degree in Film And Literature and an MA in Politics And Philosophy from Goldsmiths University. Supporting Ian Dury’s band The Blockheads at Ronnie Scotts one night, Sarah met the saxophonist and composer Gilad Atzmon and Gilad went on to produce Sarah’s critically acclaimed debut album Stalking Juliet. Sarah has since performed live on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, played festivals, jazz clubs, venues and Arts Centers across Britain and toured in Italy.

Described by Rock’n’Reel as ‘a bracingly eclectic mix of Beat poetry with jazz, folk and Middle Eastern elements’ Sarah’s music is a sonic reflection of the contemporary London street, a melting-pot mix of urban-folk stamped with her trademark lyricism that knits everyday banter with raw poetry. Sarah’s quartet features Gilad Atzmon on accordion, clarinet and sax, Enzo Zirilli on drums and Ben Bastin on double bass.

Sarah’s album Stalking Juliet is available to buy from Amazon and iTunes.

Sarah Gillespie will be playing the Rodewald Suite at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Thursday 10th June at 8.00pm. Full details, including ticket info can be found at liverpoolphil.com
