Folk queen Peggy Seeger comes to Liverpool
It’s been a very busy few months since Peggy Seeger – folk queen, feminist icon, political activist, eco-warrior, muse – released her 22nd and probably finest solo album Everything Changes. Glowing reviews (“a revelation”, 5 stars The Guardian), many end-of-year ‘best of’ lists and several prestigious music awards have helped generate strong media coverage and interviews, placing Peggy firmly in the spotlight where she belongs.
The song Swim To The Star, from the album Everything Changes, which was co-written with her son Calum MacColl, won the Best Original Song at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards (you can hear Swim To The Star on the Liverpool Acoustic Spotlight 133). The awards ceremony in Cardiff on 22nd April saw a double coup for the family as Peggy’s husband Ewan MacColl (1915-2015) was inducted into the Folk Awards Hall of Fame.
This month Peggy embarks on a 16-date UK tour to celebrate her 80th birthday, accompanied on stage by her sons, Calum and Neill MacColl. Both fine musicians in their own right, between them they’ve played with some of the biggest names in pop and folk music in the world. Peggy says “The boys asked what I wanted for my birthday. I said it might be my last tour so I wanted them to join me. How many other families are able to request and give a similar gift?”
Peggy Seeger with Calum and Neill MacColl will be appearing at The Capstone Theatre on the evening of Saturday 13th June 2015.
Tickets are £19.25 in advance or £22.50 on the door.
