Virginia’s Acoustic Haze (10th) and Doug MacLeod (10th)

Virginia’s Acoustic Haze is a brand new open mic night hosted by Liverpool’s own Virginia Haze. It takes place every fortnight at Ye Cracke on Rice Street (off Hope Street) and the next one is this coming Wednesday 10th November. It starts at 9.00pm and runs through to 11.00pm.

The format is ‘first come, first served’ and each performer is allowed a maximum of three songs each. Virgina says the night is aimed at encouraging original music and tastefully arranged covers, so why not pop along and give it your support?

If blues is more your thing then also on Wednesday 10th November we’ve found a cracking night of blues for you in the shape of Doug MacLeod who’s playing Johnny’s Blues Club at Liverpool Marina.

On his welcome return to the Marina, Doug MacLeod will be the club’s third guest from the USA this year. Rightly acknowledged as a torchbearer of the acoustic blues, Doug, from St Louis, Missouri, is one of the last remaining bluesmen who learned from the old masters. He is highly respected for his superb songwriting, and several of his songs have been covered by many artistes including Albert King, Albert Collins and Coco Montoya.

Doug is also a great storyteller, who enthrals his audience with the tales that have inspired his songs. As a performer, he is renowned for his finger-picking and bottleneck guitar wizardry, his warm soulful vocals and his wit, which combine to produce unforgettable live performances. In the words of Delta Blues legend, Honeyboy Edwards, “Doug MacLeod, now there’s a man that can really play the blues.”

Liverpool Marina is situated at Coburg Wharf, Sefton Street, Liverpool L3 4BP. Tickets for the concert are £11 each in advance from John Welsh on 0151 428 2855 or johnswelsh[at]hotmail.com or £12 on the door. Doors open at 8.00pm and the show starts at 8.45pm.
