DESCRIPTION:Hughie Jones plays guitar\, banjo\, and ukulele and was taught harmonica by the legendary blues man Sonny Terry. A member of The Spinners Folkgroup until their disbandment at the end of 1988\, Hughie and the band made over 30 LPs and dozens of compilations were produced on the Fontana\, Phillips and EMI labels. \nHughie’s work now centres particularly on sea song and this has given him a platform at home and aborad. His CD ‘Liverpool Connexions’ features mostly maritime works and a fair sprinkling of characters from his native Liverpool too. His latest CD ‘Maritime Miscellany’ contains songs from many aspects of seafaring and features friends from his long association with Fellside Recordings. \nFree entry – registration required

DESCRIPTION:Merry Hell – After two consecutive years of sold out shows Liverpool Acoustic’s favourite folk-rock band are returning to the Music Room on Saturday 23rd February for another hell-raising show. \nMerry Hell have made a name for themselves in recent years as one of the most energetic and entertaining bands on the UK folk festival circuit\, and with three critically acclaimed albums under their belts (and a new one on the way) a visit to Liverpool is long overdue. \nMerry Hell is a band founded on the ever-evolving Folk tradition – music made by the people and shared by the people. Though their hearts and souls are tuned to the songs which came before\, Merry Hell bring us new words and music forged from their own experiences\, from the lows and the loves of their lives. \nEmerging from the ashes of festival favourites\, punk folk band Tansads\, Merry Hell retains a nucleus of brothers John\, Bob and Andrew Kettle (guitar\, mandolin and vocals respectively)\, along with keyboard player\, Lee Goulding and drummer Andy Jones\, the addition of keys and vocalist\, Virginia Kettle has helped create a new identity\, purpose and spirit\, in their music. She took little persuading to trade in her solo singer-songwriter past for a future in the band. DESCRIPTION:Finalists announced for Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge 2018 Showcase Final\n\n\nTen talented local songwriters have won a place at the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge 2018 Showcase Final taking place on Saturday 12th January 2019 at LEAF on Bold St. \nSongwriters submitted brand new songs inspired by works of art on display across the Liverpool City Region during the October entry period. Judges Stephen Langstaff\, Kaya Herstad Carney\, Robert Vincent\, Jon Lawton and Luke Moore listened to all of the entries and gave each one a score based on lyrics\, melody\, composition and originality. The points from the judges were added together and the songwriters with the ten highest scores were awarded a place at the Showcase Final. \nThe finalists are (in alphabetical order):- \n\nAlison Benson – The Crystal Ball\nChris Callander – In My Arms\nEd Jones – Those Lonely Tears\nGuy Called Greg – Morning Light\nIain Paterson – All At Sea\nJohn Jenkins – What We Did (We Did For Love)\nLydiah – Siren Call\nRachael Jean Harris – Pegasus\nStuart Todd – After Dark\nVisions of Albion – The Advice of Mrs Mounter\n\n\n[divider] [/divider]\n\nEach of the ten finalists will perform their song at the Showcase Final with an image of the work of art that inspired it projected onto the big screen for everyone to see. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate 50 years of The Beatles’ White Album at Leaf on 22nd November\nIn 2016 a group of local\, national and international musicians fronted by Roxanne de Bastion and Thom Morecroft gathered together at Leaf on Bold Street to recreate the groundbreaking Beatles album Revolver\, 50 years to the day since its release. In 2017 Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band received the ’50 Years of’ treatment\, with The Ragamuffins as house band. \nFast forward to Thursday 22nd November 2018 and The Ragamuffins along with Roxanne\, Thom and a host of friends and special guests will be taking on their biggest challenge yet – recreating the 30 song double album The Beatles – known to everyone as the White Album – on its 50th anniversary. \nAlready confirmed for this epic show are local artists Eleanor Nelly\, Johnny Sands and Rachael Jean Harris. The songs each of them will be performing from the double album will be revealed on the night. No spoilers here! \nJust like with the previous shows you won’t find any carbon copies of Beatles songs.
