SUMMARY:Jon Gomm @ Music Room 14/05/25
DESCRIPTION:Glasswerk\, in association with Liverpool Acoustic\, present Jon Gomm in concert. \n\n\n\nJon Gomm is a singer-songwriter and acoustic solo performer based in Yorkshire\, UK\, known for his once-seen-never-forgotten virtuoso guitar style. This involves slapping\, tapping and retuning as he plays\, producing a huge\, multi-layered sound filled with bass\, drums and near-orchestral depth and complexity from a single guitar. \n\n\n\nHis songs are often deeply emotive\, whether with or without his soft\, affecting voice. And his live performances are intimate and powerful\, but always punctured by his natural North Of England wit and self-deprecation. \n\n\n\nIn 2020 Jon was voted “Best Acoustic Guitarist In The World” in the largest online poll of its type\, conducted by MusicRadar / Guitar World. \n\n\n\nIbanez guitars launched the JGM10 and JGM5 Jon Gomm Signature Model guitars in 2021. He’s the 3rd guitarist ever to design a signature acoustic with Ibanez\, the previous two being Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. \n\n\n\nIn 2023\, Jon’s song Passionflower was placed 6th in Total Guitar’s “50 Greatest Acoustic Guitar Songs Of All Time”\, just behind The Beatles’ Blackbird and Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton. \n\n\n\nJon is also a passionate advocate for mental health and neuro-diversity.

SUMMARY:Merry Helloween @ The Citadel 25/10/24
DESCRIPTION:GET READY for the triumphant return of (drumroll….) MERRY HELLOWEEN!!! \n\n\n\nThat’s right\, your eyes are not deceiving you! Like a good (bad?) vampire\, werewolf or zombie mysteriously back from the dead\, on Friday 25th October\, after a break of SEVEN YEARS (where’s the time gone\, eh?) everyone’s favourite folk rock band MERRY HELL returns to St Helens’ best loved music venue The Citadel with a revival of their annual Merry Helloween show. Expect devilishly good songs\, spooktacular musicianship\, and singing so good it’ll send a shiver down your spine. Throw into the mix copious amounts of dancing and audience participation\, and you’ve got yourself an experience that’ll haunt you (in a good way) all the way through to at least Christmas! \n\n\n\nMerry Hell have made a name for themselves in recent years as one of the most energetic and entertaining bands on the UK folk festival circuit\, with four critically acclaimed albums under their belts. \n\n\n\nFounded on the ever-evolving folk tradition – music made by the people and shared by the people – though their hearts and souls are tuned to the songs which came before\, Merry Hell bring us new words and music forged from their own experiences\, from the lows and the loves of their lives. \n\n\n\nEmerging from the ashes of festival favourites\, punk folk band Tansads\, Merry Hell retains a nucleus of brothers John\, Bob and Andrew Kettle (guitar\, mandolin and vocals respectively)\, along with keyboard player Lee Goulding and drummer Andy Jones\, and the addition of keys and vocalist Virginia Kettle has helped create a new identity\, purpose and spirit\, in their music. \n\n\n\nThis show is standing in the stalls – although when we say standing\, what we really mean is dancing! There’s reserved seating in the circle for those who wish to rattle their jewellery in good old Beatles fashion. So come on\, what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets now before they sell out!

SUMMARY:Tom Kitching: Where There's Brass @ Music Room 09/06/24
DESCRIPTION:Author and musician Tom Kitching launches his new book and album\, Where There’s Brass\, with a special storytelling and music concert tour. \n\n\n\nDocumenting six months living in the London waterways community\, making the long journey across England from Manchester on a traditional narrowboat built in 1937\, Where There’s Brass tells the story of the contemporary London waterways – a floating slum at worst\, a bohemian\, alternative\, vibrant community at best. It is a love letter to the waterways\, and a rallying cry for what they can be in the future. \n\n\n\nStories old and new are interwoven with a specially composed suite of music\, underpinned by Tom’s long-term accompanist\, the brilliant Nordic mandola player Marit Fält. \n\n\n\nTom’s debut solo album Interloper was listed at #6 in the Sunday Express Albums of the Year 2015. \n\n\n\nTickets for this event include a £1 venue restoration levy\, included in the ticket price. This fee supports building investment at the Grade II-listed Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
