DESCRIPTION:Finalists announced for Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge 2018 Showcase Final\n\n\nTen talented local songwriters have won a place at the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge 2018 Showcase Final taking place on Saturday 12th January 2019 at LEAF on Bold St. \nSongwriters submitted brand new songs inspired by works of art on display across the Liverpool City Region during the October entry period. Judges Stephen Langstaff\, Kaya Herstad Carney\, Robert Vincent\, Jon Lawton and Luke Moore listened to all of the entries and gave each one a score based on lyrics\, melody\, composition and originality. The points from the judges were added together and the songwriters with the ten highest scores were awarded a place at the Showcase Final. \nThe finalists are (in alphabetical order):- \n\nAlison Benson – The Crystal Ball\nChris Callander – In My Arms\nEd Jones – Those Lonely Tears\nGuy Called Greg – Morning Light\nIain Paterson – All At Sea\nJohn Jenkins – What We Did (We Did For Love)\nLydiah – Siren Call\nRachael Jean Harris – Pegasus\nStuart Todd – After Dark\nVisions of Albion – The Advice of Mrs Mounter\n\n\n[divider] [/divider]\n\nEach of the ten finalists will perform their song at the Showcase Final with an image of the work of art that inspired it projected onto the big screen for everyone to see. He’ll be sandwiched between lovely layers of open mic performers who this month are encouraged to play at least one blues song (original or cover) at part of their three song set. \nThis is the last Liverpool Acoustic Afternoon before our winter break. \nThe event is hosted by Derek King\, Stuart Todd\, and Graham Holland. \nAs always this event is free. We take a collection which is divided between the booked acts and hosts\, but there’s absolutely no obligation to make a donation. \nThis event takes place in the performance room at the back of the venue\, and is open to all ages. So why not come along\, grab some lunch and a drink from the front bar\, and enjoy the music? \nSlots for the open mic will be reserved from 12.30pm on the day only on a first come\, first served basis – once they’re gone they’re gone!

DESCRIPTION:Phil Hare is an acoustic guitarist\, troubadour\, and mentor. \nInspired to buy an acoustic guitar in 1977 after discovering the words and music of Roy Harper\, John Martyn and Mike Chapman\, Phil started writing folksy ballads and songs and doing ‘floor spots’ around the many folk clubs in his native Wirral and neighbouring Liverpool. Since then Phil has built a successful career playing at festivals\, clubs and venues across the country\, and has an extensive catalogue of recorded music. His distinctive and accomplished guitar style means Phil is in great demand as a solo performer\, band member (he was in local folk rock band Full House)\, and guest musician. \nDescribed as an all-purpose acoustic guitar hero and singer-songwriter Phil\, who now lives in the Cambridgeshire town of March\, will be making a rare and highly anticipated return to Liverpool in October. Expect fine songs\, exceptional musicianship\, and a possible surprise guest or two! \n \nSupport on the night is from local singer-songwriter Marc Vormawah. Previously with Liverpool band Personal Column\, Marc is currently gaining new fans with his witty\, lyrical songs played in his own inimitable style. \n\nUnfortunately Katie Nicholas is not able to join us but her place will be amply filled by Charlie McKeon. A master of stringed instruments – guitar\, banjo and waldzither\, to name a few – Charlie is a folk enthusiast who’s equally at home with traditional and contemporary music. \nDoors open at 7.30pm and the music starts at 8.00pm. DESCRIPTION:Liverpool Acoustic Afternoon and Songwriting Challenge 2018 launch @ 81 Renshaw 01/09/18\n \nThe Liverpool Acoustic Afternoon takes place on the first Saturday of every month at 81 Renshaw. \nThis month the event on Saturday 1st September also marks the launch of the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge 2018. For more information about the Challenge and how to enter visit challenge.liverpoolacoustic.co.uk \nThe afternoon runs from 1.00pm to 4.00pm and features two booked guests with 20 minute sets sandwiched between lovely layers of open mic performers. \nSlots for the open mic are on a first come\, first served basis\, with sign up available from 12.30pm\, half an hour before the event starts. \nPerforming for us this month: \n\nLydia Higham (Songwriting Challenge 2018 winner)\n(guest TBC)\n\nThe event is hosted by Derek King and Stuart Todd \nAs always this event is free. We take a collection which is divided between the booked acts and hosts\, but there’s absolutely no obligation to make a donation. \nThis event takes place in the performance room at the back of the venue\, and is open to all ages.
