SUMMARY:Merry Hell\, plus Fine Lines @ Music Room 23/02/19
DESCRIPTION:Merry Hell – After two consecutive years of sold out shows Liverpool Acoustic’s favourite folk-rock band are returning to the Music Room on Saturday 23rd February for another hell-raising show. \nMerry Hell have made a name for themselves in recent years as one of the most energetic and entertaining bands on the UK folk festival circuit\, and with three critically acclaimed albums under their belts (and a new one on the way) a visit to Liverpool is long overdue. \nMerry Hell is a band founded on the ever-evolving Folk tradition – music made by the people and shared by the people. Though their hearts and souls are tuned to the songs which came before\, Merry Hell bring us new words and music forged from their own experiences\, from the lows and the loves of their lives. \nEmerging from the ashes of festival favourites\, punk folk band Tansads\, Merry Hell retains a nucleus of brothers John\, Bob and Andrew Kettle (guitar\, mandolin and vocals respectively)\, along with keyboard player\, Lee Goulding and drummer Andy Jones\, the addition of keys and vocalist\, Virginia Kettle has helped create a new identity\, purpose and spirit\, in their music. She took little persuading to trade in her solo singer-songwriter past for a future in the band. Her prolific\, ingenious and insightful song writing is one of the focal points of Merry Hell’s recordings and live performances – her presence has perfectly complemented a group which has taken particular pride in penning originals. \nMerry Hell have a growing fan base\, great reviews for live shows\, and their albums ‘Blink … and You’ll Miss It’\, ‘Head Full of Magic\, Shoes Full of Rain’\, plus current offering ‘The Ghost In Our House and other Stories’ received rave reviews in the music press\, with all three getting five star reviews. \nSupport is from Knutsford-based folk and alt-country band Fine Lines. \nTickets are £14 (£12 concessions) from liverpoolphil.com \nPLEASE NOTE – This is a standing gig. Limited seating is available in the bar area from 7pm on a first come\, first served basis. \n‘More than just a bit stupendous’ fRoots Magazine \n‘Guaranteed to get you on your feet dancing’ Liverpool Acoustic

SUMMARY:Little Sparrow and Elfin Bow @ Music Room 15/04/18
DESCRIPTION:Liverpool Acoustic presents a double headline show with Little Sparrow and Elfin Bow each playing a full set with no support. \nTickets are £12 (£10 concessions) from liverpoolphil.com \nDoors open at 7pm\, music starts at 8pm. \n[divider] [/divider]\nLittle Sparrow\nAs captivating to watch as she is to listen to\, Little Sparrow’s beautifully emotive use of expression mirrors the sincerity of her delivery\, making her someone not to be missed. Her delicately crafted folk songs are created with a combination of flawless vocals\, strings\, guitars\, percussion and tender harmonies. \n  \nManchester singer-songwriter Katie Ware adopted the name Little Sparrow as she felt it characteristic of the sound she had developed and the direction in which she wished to travel. Drawing upon influences as diverse as Kate Bush\, \nAll About Eve and PJ Harvey she creates songs that are filled with a blend of styles\, woven into the colourful tapestry of her music\, often with a mysterious fairy tale quality. \n  \nVoted ‘Favourite Artist of 2016’ by Laurel Canyon Music\, Little Sparrow is a firm Liverpool Acoustic favourite who takes listeners on a journey that touches upon every emotion\, from heart-breaking sadness to uplifting joy. \n  \n[divider] [/divider] \nElfin Bow\n  \nElfin Bow’s music has been described as a fairy tale experience; pastoral psych-folk with an undercurrent of electronic ambience. With imagery that blends her twin passions of music and art\, her songs and stage presence exude colour\, charisma and a gentle charm. Her self-titled debut album was released in March with a live session on BBC Radio Wales and a spectacular sold-out launch in the Epstein Theatre\, Liverpool. Elfin Bow has been described by Shindig Magazine as\, ‘lyrically astute and melodically inventive\,’ and by Fatea Magazine as ‘a rising star of the modern folk world\,’ and ‘one to watch in 2017.’ \n  \nIf music is a journey of discovery to be savoured and enjoyed\, then Elfin Bow is carving out her own exciting and unique path and loving every moment. With sounds reminiscent of Sandy Denny\, Kate Bush and Pink Floyd\, she loves to pen her own songs as well as collecting jewels from the musical history books to reinterpret in her own way\, playing guitar\, mandolin\, violin and piano. \n  \nElfin Bow has been described as a ‘juggernaut’ of passion\, energy and drive – an essential quality for any modern musician – and whilst her presence may be gentle\, she isn’t launching her music on the world with anything other than a loud\, and very artistic\, roar. \n“An album that gets the mind thinking\, the body moving and the spirit soaring.” Neil King\, Fatea Magazine \n

SUMMARY:SOLD OUT Woody Guthrie: The Long Road to Peekskill\, with Will Kaufman @ Music Room 10/03/18
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE 08/03/18 – THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT\nPlease contact the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall box office for returns. \n[divider] [/divider] \nTHE LONG ROAD TO PEEKSKILL presents the story of Woody Guthrie’s personal transformation from a youthful Oklahoma racist to the ardent anti-racist champion who\, along with many others\, risked his life holding the line against American fascism during the notorious Peekskill riots of 1949. Conventionally known for his championing of the poor white Dust Bowl migrants\, Guthrie also left an extensive body of songs condemning Jim Crow segregation\, lynching and race hatred. Most of these songs were never recorded\, but they are the legacy of this remarkable journey that eventually brought Guthrie into the fellowship of Lead Belly\, Josh White\, Sonny Terry\, Brownie McGhee and Paul Robeson. The Long Road to Peekskill is both a harrowing and uplifting presentation\, showing through the example of Woody Guthrie that racists are not born\, but made – and that they can be unmade. \nTickets are £11 (£9 concessions) from liverpoolphil.com \nDoors open at 7pm for an 8pm start. \n[divider] [/divider] \nListen up all you Jim Crow fascists and you race-hate mongers\, too: \nWill Kaufman is a-comin’ and he’s got his eye on you. \nWon’t brake for no excuses\, won’t stand no messin’ around\, \nYour bigot ways can’t save you ’cause Will Kaufman’s gonna run you down. \n– Ry Cooder \n  \nKaufman brings Woody Guthrie’s music alive through his superb playing and his insightful commentary. His presentation is illuminating and moving\, as well as being a real musical treat. – Prof. Iwan Morgan\, University of London \n  \nWill Kaufman is a consummate performer\, with a passion for Guthrie’s music and his message. – Dr. Heidi Macpherson\, President\, State University of New York (Brockport College) \nEntertaining\, educational\, witty\, provocative\, and moving — a perfectly put together performance of real quality. – Prof. Neil Campbell\, University of Derby \nWill Kaufman is an outstanding performer. He is mesmerising as a singer and incisive as a commentator. – Dr. Edward Ashbee\, Centre for the Study of the Americas\, Copenhagen\, Denmark

SUMMARY:Merry Hell\, plus Fine Lines @ Music Room 17/02/18
DESCRIPTION:Merry Hell – After last year’s sold out show Liverpool Acoustic’s favourite folk-rock band are returning to the Music Room on Saturday 17th February for another hell-raising show. \nTickets are £13 (£11 concessions) from liverpoolphil.com \nPLEASE NOTE – This is a standing gig. Limited seating is available in the bar area from 7pm on a first come\, first served basis. \n‘More than just a bit stupendous’ fRoots Magazine \n‘Guaranteed to get you on your feet dancing’ Liverpool Acoustic

SUMMARY:Jon Gomm @ Music Room 27/05/17
DESCRIPTION:Liverpool Acoustic and Glasswerk present Jon Gomm.\nReturning to Liverpool for the first time since 2015\, Jon will be performing at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall Music Room on Saturday 27th May 2017. \n‘Once you get over the jaw dropping manoeuvres and technique\, you will be rewarded with some spectacularly beautiful songs.’ Blues & Soul Magazine perfectly describe how you feel when witnessing Jon Gomm play. \nThe acoustic singer-songwriter with a revolutionary virtuoso guitar style is exceptional. He uses one acoustic guitar to create drum sounds\, basslines and twisting melodies all at the same time. His emphasis is still on the soulful vocals and songwriting\, and his original material is influenced by everything from Robert Johnson to Radiohead. \nLive\, he combines deeply personal performances and a natural wit\, with a once seen\, never forgotten two-handed guitar style\, both physical and complex\, producing sounds you can barely believe are coming from a humble acoustic guitar. \nTickets are £15 from the Liverpool Philharmonic box office. \n7pm doors for an 8pm start. \n\nPlease note that this is a standing concert.

Her Liverpool show is taking place at Leaf on Bold Street\, and will feature some very special guests to be announced soon. \nFollowing in the footsteps of the 1960’s greats like Dylan\, Nyro\, Mitchell with a touch of Beatles psychedelia\, de Bastion is on the forefront of the new singer-songwriter generation: Someone with something to say and a musicality to match. \nSince the release of her debut album The Real Thing in 2013 and her follow up Seeing You EP in 2014\, London artist Roxanne de Bastion has made a name for herself across Europe as “a real mover and shaker in the independent music scene” (Ruth Barnes). Over the past 12 months\, Roxanne has toured with the Wainright Sisters\, Thea Gilmore\, Ricky Ross and completed her own UK headline tour\, with sell-out shows in London and Liverpool\, racking up an impressive list of awards and accolades. \nOne of the most perfect voices I’ve ever heard – Tom Whalley\, BBC6\nStandout number…astonishingly assured – The Sunday Times\nIf you ever get a chance to see her live – definitely do! – BBC Introducing Coventry & Warwickshire \nThe first single RUN is out now\, described by Getintothis as ““a track that should quite simply adorn every playlist in the land… Melodic majesty”. \nRoxanne performed at Glastonbury (acoustic stage) last year and has just finished recording her second studio album together with producer Peter Miles (Eliza and the Bear / Meadowlark). The main inspiration the album is Roxanne’s grandfather\, Stephen de Bastion (or Istvan Bastyai von Holzer)\, a pianist from Hungary who made a new home for himself and his family in Stratford upon Avon after enduring the Second World War and the Communist takeover of his homeland. \nRoxanne draws parallels between his historical experiences and what’s happening now\, exploring how trauma gets passed on through generations and pointing a singer at society’s short term memory. \nEvent: Roxanne de Bastion ‘Heirlooms & Hearsay’ Album Tour\nSupport: TBC\nDate: Friday 5th May 2017\nVenue: Leaf on Bold Street\, Liverpool\nTimes: Doors 7.30pm\, 8pm start\nTickets: £7 advance\, £10 on the door

SUMMARY:**SOLD OUT** Merry Hell @ Music Room 13/01/17
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE – This event is now SOLD OUT\nContact the Liverpool Philharmonic box office for returns\nMerry Hell – Liverpool Acoustic’s favourite folk-rock band – are bringing the infectious excitement of their Merry Helloween live show to the Music Room in January for a Friday the 13th Special! \nSupport is from Wirral-based Americana trio Jimmy Rae and the Moonshine Girls. \nMerry Hell have a growing fan base\, great reviews for live shows\, and their albums ‘Blink … and You’ll Miss It’\, ‘Head Full of Magic\, Shoes Full of Rain’\, plus previous offering ‘The Ghost In Our House and other Stories’ received rave reviews in the music press\, with all three getting five star reviews. The brand new album ‘Bloodlines’ (released 1st November 2016) is chock full of more Merry Hell magic as they continue to win over fans old and new with their infectious brand of modern folk rock. \nShow: Merry Hell – Friday the 13th Special\nSupport: Jimmy Rae and the Moonshine Girls\nDate: Friday 13th January 2017\nVenue: Music Room\, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall\nTickets: £13 full price\, £11 concessions\n\nPLEASE NOTE This is a standing event. Well\, you can’t dance with tables and chairs in the way\, can you? 😉\nMerry Hell ‘Friday the 13th’ Special @ Music Room 13/01/17

SUMMARY:Woody Guthrie: Hard Times and Hard Travelin’ @ Music Room 04/10/16
DESCRIPTION:Woody Guthrie: Hard Times and Hard Travelin’ is a ‘live documentary’ presented by singer\, multi-instrumentalist and Professor of American Literature and Culture Will Kaufman. Author of the first political biography of the legendary American balladeer\, Will is recognised as the world’s leading authority on Woody Guthrie. \nWoody Guthrie: Hard Times and Hard Travelin’ sets Guthrie’s songs in the context of the American 1930s – the Dust Bowl\, the Depression\, the New Deal and the state of popular music itself. Such hard-hitting songs as “Vigilante Man”\, “Pretty Boy Floyd” and “I Ain’t Got No Home” are brought into conversation with other relevant songs – from Joe Hill’s “The Preacher and the Slave” to “Brother\, Can You Spare a Dime?”. Altogether the show highlights the blending of music and radical politics that marks Guthrie’s most powerful work. \nThe ticket prices are £10 full price\, £8 concessions available from liverpoolphil.com

SUMMARY:Leon Rosselson @ Music Room 14/09/16
DESCRIPTION:Liverpool Acoustic Presents: Leon Rosselson\nLiverpool Acoustic is delighted to welcome back to Liverpool folk legend Leon Rosselson. \nA stalwart of the 1960s folk revival\, Leon is an incomparable songwriter with a unique style\, and a wicked sense of mischief. His songs poke fun at the preposterous\, the people in power\, the state of the nation and the world. \nHis most recent – and final – album ‘Where are the barricades?’ features some of his finest songs\, ranging from the humorous to the poignant and from the lyrical to the satirical. Stories for our times\, musically varied and not a word out of place. \nSupport is provided by Esme Bridie\, a 19-year-old singer- songwriter from the Wirral. Influenced by 1960’s folk artists such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan\, Esme has always had a love of words and imagery\, and takes great pride in her lyrics. Esme is currently studying a BA Hons music degree at Leeds College of Music\, which has given her the opportunity to perform in venues across Leeds as well as collaborate with like-minded musicians.

SUMMARY:50 Years of Revolver - Live at Leaf 05/08/16
DESCRIPTION:The Beatles’ genre-bending Revolver album celebrated 50 years on\n \nSinger-songwriter Roxanne de Bastion will be performing The Beatles’ iconic Revolver album together with some of Liverpool’s best musicians and songwriters to celebrate its 50th birthday. \nSpecial guests confirmed so far include She Drew The Gun fresh from winning Glastonbury’s 2016 Emerging Talent Competition\, popular singer-songwriter Thom Morecroft\, respected international musician Richard de Bastion\, avant-garde Baroque-pop songwriter FABIA\, and Eleanor Nelly LIMF Academy 2016’s ‘Most Ready’. Also added to the lineup are Liverpool Acoustic’s Derek King who’ll be collaborating with The Southbound Attic Band on the album’s most challenging song. \nThe event is taking place at Liverpool’s Leaf on Bold Street on Friday 5th August 2016 – 50 years to the day since Revolver was first issued. \nBerlin-born Roxanne says:- “Music was my first love. When I discovered The Beatles at the unlikely age of four (or perhaps not so unlikely – George Harrison once said in an interview “every four year old watches Yellow Submarine” and I was like…”really?”)\, I fell in love irrevocably and unconditionally with harmony\, with songwriting\, with words\, with beats\, with sitars\, french horns\, with strings\, with backwards guitar licks\, with rock n roll and ballads. I can measure my life against Beatles songs\, they are the pencil markings on the door frame\, showing my height as a six year old\, a ten year old\, a 13 year old. They are the soundtrack to life and I know I’m not alone. Revolver is my favourite album of all time and this year\, on August 5th\, which just so happens to be a Friday\, it turns 50. I can’t help but celebrate! As an homage to what is undoubtedly one of the most influential albums of our time\, I’m going to perform the album live in Liverpool\, with a little help from my friends. Won’t you join us?” \nOn the night\, de Bastion and her fellow artists will be interpreting the songs and performing them in a way that is authentic to them. The second half of the evening will consist of original music – songs inspired by The Beatles – by some of Liverpool’s finest singer-songwriters. \n \nThe proceeds from 50 Years of Revolver are being donated to In Place Of War\, a charity that supports artists and creative communities living in sites of war\, revolution\, conflict\, human rights abuse and marginalisation across the world. You can find out more about In Place Of War and the groundbreaking\, life affirming work they do at inplaceofwar.net \n\nEvent: Liverpool Acoustic presents\n50 YEARS OF REVOLVER\nRoxanne de Bastion\nplus guest sJames J Turner\nDate: Friday 5th August 2016\nTimes: 7.30pm doors\, 8.00pm start\nVenue: Leaf on Bold Street\,\nTickets: £7.00 (+ 70p booking fee) in advance & £10 on the door\nwegottickets.com/liverpoolacoustic\nThe facebook event can be found here\nDetails of all Liverpool Acoustic music events can be found at  liverpoolacoustic.co.uk/events\nPress enquiries & guestlist email\ncontact@liverpoolacoustic.co.uk\n\n  \n50 Years of Revolver – Live at Leaf 05/08/16
