SUMMARY:Anthony John Clarke and Richard Digance @ Music Room 14/09/24
DESCRIPTION:Richard Digance has graced every stage in his expansive career as a songwriter\, performer\, author and television personality. His TV career includes The Old Grey Whistle Test\, numerous Saturday night ITV specials\, and 17 years on Countdown. Richard has opened every Saturday at Fairport Convention’s Cropredy Festival for as long as anyone can remember (and that’s a long time!). His delivery from the stage is unparalleled and he is a very funny man.  \n\n\n\nAnthony John Clarke has remained a stalwart of the music scene and festival world for over 30 years. He has written some of the best and well known songs for folk audiences and his shows are both extremely funny and entertaining.  \n\n\n\nThis is one of only a handful of 2024 shows featuring the pairing of Anthony John Clarke and Richard Digance. It’s an evening with a guaranteed feel-good factor showcasing two artists totally at ease with their material\, their audience and one another. \n\n\n\nAJ’s show last year with Fairport Convention’s Dave Pegg was a sell out\, so this one\, as they say\, is not to be missed! \n\n\n\nThis show is fully reserved seating – £17 Premium / £14 Regular / £12 Bar \n\n\n\nTickets for this event include a £1 venue restoration levy\, included in the ticket price. This fee supports building investment at the Grade II-listed Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

SUMMARY:Tom Kitching: Where There's Brass @ Music Room 09/06/24
DESCRIPTION:Author and musician Tom Kitching launches his new book and album\, Where There’s Brass\, with a special storytelling and music concert tour. \n\n\n\nDocumenting six months living in the London waterways community\, making the long journey across England from Manchester on a traditional narrowboat built in 1937\, Where There’s Brass tells the story of the contemporary London waterways – a floating slum at worst\, a bohemian\, alternative\, vibrant community at best. SUMMARY:My Darling Clementine - Country Darkness/Christmas Light @ Music Room 04/12/22
DESCRIPTION:A Winter Celebration of Clementine\, Costello\, Country and Christmas \n\n\n\nMy Darling Clementine’s most recent album\, Country Darkness – The songs of Elvis Costello\, has been hailed as a classic. The new album sees them collaborating with the piano genius Steve Nieve\, Costello’s long time right-hand man\, as they reinterpret songs from the Costello back catalogue\, in particular his more country and country soul flavoured songs. \n\n\n\nA labour of love on multiple levels\, My Darling Clementine – the sobriquet of spouses Michael Weston King and Lou Dalgleish – began as a homage to classic country duets of the 60’s and 70’s. During the past 9 years they have played over 800 shows around the world\, won numerous awards and have more than earned their own bona fides\, with their wry yet heart-on-sleeve song craft spotlighting the vagaries of romance and the human condition\, and their match-made-in-heaven harmonies. \n\n\n\nIn this show\, the duo will perform a number of the Costello songs\, many favourites from their own nine year back catalogue\, as well as some of their favourite seasonal country classics. \n\n\n\n‘King and Dalgleish have earned their place in the role call of great country duettists.’ Uncut\n\n\n\n‘My Darling Clementine mix country gloom with excellent musicianship and very fine songs.’ The Guardian

DESCRIPTION:It Takes Two: Merseyside’s Best Vocal Duos @ Music Room 25/11/21\n\n\n\n Tennessee Waltz\, Rob Jone & Rob WhiteIgloo Hearts\, White Little Lies\n\n\n\nIt Takes Two is back in the Music Room for the fourth time with a brand new line-up featuring four of Merseyside’s most exciting vocal duos – Tennessee Waltz\, Rob Jones and Rob White\, Igloo Hearts\, and White Little Lies. \n\n\n\nTennessee Waltz are a close harmony acoustic country duo from Merseyside\, comprising singer-songwriters Jimmy Rae (vocals\, guitar\, harmonica) and Sarah-Lou Fletcher (vocals\, guitar\, mandolin and percussion). Their live shows also feature their distinctive interpretations of songs by classic and contemporary country artists including Johnny Cash\, Patsy Cline\, the Everly Brothers and Emmylou Harris. \n\n\n\nRob Jones and Rob White were born and raised in Liverpool and have been harmonising since meeting at school. Rob Jones’ songs attempt to deal with the ups and downs of life\, public transport\, heartbreak\, The Monkees and the Mersey rain-sometimes all in the same song. \n\n\n\n‘The harmonies\, of which Simon and Garfunkel would be proud\, are beautiful but with a generous sprinkle of Merseyside realism; the effect of the combination is just something to behold.’Liverpool Sound & Vision on Rob Jones and Rob WhiteIgloo Hearts are Wrexham based couple James and Katie MacGregor. Their music incorporates classical piano and powerful harmonies\, in a style that is hauntingly beautiful. Finalists at the recent Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Competition\, the duo have played at many stunning venues across Wales\, and the North West. \n\n\n\nWhite Little Lies are Americana and close-harmony duo Vanessa Murray and Daniel Saleh. They have developed an ability to create songs that make you tap your feet as well as writing ballads that carry much more emotional significance. Each show is a guaranteed rollercoaster of emotions\, from elation to reflection\, and you really get the sense that there is a piece of personal experience in everything they create.

SUMMARY:Jon Gomm @ Music Room 05/11/22
DESCRIPTION:Jon Gomm is a singer-songwriter and acoustic solo performer based in Yorkshire\, known for his once-seen-never-forgotten virtuoso guitar style. This involves slapping\, tapping and retuning as he plays\, producing a huge\, multi-layered sound filled with bass\, drums and near-orchestral depth and complexity\, all from a single guitar. \n\n\n\nHis songs are often deeply emotive\, whether with or without his soft\, affecting voice. And his live performances are intimate and powerful\, but always punctured by his natural North Of England wit and self-deprecation. \n\n\n\nHis breakthrough came in 2012\, when he released his first ever single\, ‘Passionflower’\, along with a video of him performing the song\, which went viral\, totalling well over 20 million views across platforms. Suddenly being catapulted from cult obscurity to mainstream acceptance has been a strange experience for someone so devoted to his craft\, and Jon is an unlikely guitar hero who remains very much true to his roots in the UK acoustic circuit. Jon has released 4 studio albums\, his latest being The Faintest Idea.

SUMMARY:Martin Carthy with support from Danny Bradley @ Music Room 20/09/22
DESCRIPTION:For more than 50 years\, Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest and best loved innovators. His skill\, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers\, not only from within the folk scene\, but also far beyond it. \n\n\n\nTrailblazing musical partnerships with\, amongst others\, Steeleye Span\, Dave Swarbrick and his award-winning wife (Norma Waterson) and daughter Eliza Carthy have resulted in more than 40 albums\, but Martin has only recorded 10 solo albums. Whether in the folk clubs\, on the concert stage or making TV appearances – there are few roles that Martin Carthy hasn’t played. \n\n\n\nHe’s a ballad singer\, a ground-breaking acoustic and electric-guitarist\, and an authoritative interpreter of newly composed material. Perhaps\, most significant of all\, are his settings of traditional songs with guitar\, which have influenced a generation of artists\, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon\, on both sides of the Atlantic. \n\n\n\nSupport is from Danny Bradley\, winner of the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge 2021 Judges’ Award.
