You don’t have to work for an event agency to know there’s a huge amount of talent out there on the local music scene. We’ve got superb singers, sensational songwriters, and marvellous musicians of all kinds.

And guitarists. Merseyside is never short of guitarists!

But how good a guitarist are you? Think you’re up there with Reinhardt, Johnson, Page, Hendrix, and Van Halen? If you rate your own plectrum-wielding, string-plucking skills and fancy a challenge then read on.

Sky Arts has launched Guitar Star, a major new competition to find a world-class guitarist. They’re searching the UK and Ireland for extraordinary guitar players willing to jam, strum, and pluck their way to victory for the chance to perform on the main stage at a major UK music festival, Latitude.

Whether your jam is rock, classical, jazz or acoustic, competing guitarists will be tested on their ability to play both in a range of musical styles and a genre of their choice. Throughout the process they’ll be mentored by some of the biggest guitar stars in the world.

Entry is by audition video which must be submitted by 9.00am on Tuesday 31st March 2015.

The show will be transmitted later in the year.

Good luck!

  1. I am trying to enter this guitar star comp, but am unable to upload my video without putting it on you tube. Is there any way I can attach my video without the world seeing it?

  2. It’s possible to upload a video to YouTube and to mark it as ‘private’. This means that only someone with the link is able to see it, and that it won’t show on your profile or via a search.
