The Art and Craft of Songwriting course – January 2015

Gerry Murphy’s The Art and Craft of Songwriting is a 10 week course that helps students to develop their songwriting skills. The course looks at the history of modern popular song, and the meaning of words such as melody and lyrics. Also covered are areas including song structures, pre-conditions of creativity, anatomy of a ‘hit’ song, developing themes and ideas, and getting going. There will be plenty of time to write your own songs and to receive constructive feedback from the rest of the group.

Previous songwriting experience is useful though not essential, and the ability to play guitar or keyboard is an asset.
