SINGLE REVIEW

Artist – Windmill

Single – One More Dance

Release date – 17th November 2014

Reviewer – Allan Cairns

This is Windmill’s latest single following their previous singles Birdman, Where Are We Now and Tiny Children. If One More Dance is a taste of their upcoming debut album Sandcastle then we have a treat in store. The band is made up of Mick Dolan, Dawn Williams, David T Palmer, Louise Rodriguez and Jennifer Scully. Although Mick Dolan originally formed Windmill a good few years ago, its present form is quite new, yet they could fool you into thinking they have been together for much longer they sound so good.

Their first single was Birdman written by Mick and performed with singer Dawn Williams and recorded at House Of Light studios in Liverpool. They found that they liked the same artists Joan Baez, Angus and Julia Stone, Neil Young, Beck, Brian Wilson,Leonard Cohen and Velvet Underground. They have had rave reviews of their earlier tracks. The likes of Janice Long and Tom Robinson said Birdman was one of their favourite tracks. They both said it is ‘a hauntingly beautiful song, an amazing track full of atmosphere. I think that the new track will be greeted just as warmly.

While listening to One More Dance I’m impressed by the blending of vocals and guitar and the undercurrent of percussion. The voices meld together so well, the clear lead vocals carrying the songs lyrics only to swell when Louise and Jennifer join Dawn in singing the chorus. I found I was reminded of Within Temptation’s Utopia for some reason and the hauntingly sung theme tune from Twin Peaks. I am looking forward to the album but until then I will be playing this track often and to all.

Visit Windmill’s facebook page to hear of upcoming gigs and to see some of their earlier music videos.

The single ‘One More Dance’ is released on the 17th November and available to download from iTunes, Amazon and other digital stores.
