The fourth national Sea Shanty Festival takes place at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port over the Easter weekend from 18th to 20th April 2014.
Coinciding with the Annual Boat Gathering at the museum, the Shanty UK festival brings together nearly 100 performers in seven different venues within the museum for three exciting days of singing, concerts, boat trips, museum tours, nautical poetry, puppet-making and face painting.
According to Julia Batters of Shanty UK, the festival is designed as a fun event for the whole family. Julia said: “The UK has a long tradition of sea shanties and maritime singing and our annual festival is helping to keep this tradition alive for future generations.”
Performers include Hughie Jones, Rapsquillion, Bernie Davies, Geoff Higginbottom, Nine Tenths Below, Scolds Bridle, Trim Rig and Doxy, Derek Gifford, Roy Clinging, and many more.
The highlight of the festival is two concerts taking place within the museum on Friday and Saturday nights, which feature a number of acts from across the UK and Europe.
Liverpool Acoustic is the only website of its kind in the UK. It was founded by Graham Holland in April 2008 as a central resource for the vibrant and exciting acoustic music scene in Liverpool and the Greater Merseyside area. The website publishes news from the local acoustic music scene, previews of upcoming events, reviews of music releases and gigs, and the Liverpool Acoustic Spotlight podcast. This content is available for free via email subscription. The diary lists acoustic events including festivals, theatre concerts, folk clubs, showcases and open mic nights.
