Acoustic Dustbowl is a new event starting this month in Liverpool city centre, brought to you by Americana UK Promotions. We told you a little bit about it in January’s newsletter and now have more details to share.
Born out of the Liverpool-based and internationally respected website americana-uk.com created by Mark Whitfield in 2001, Americana UK Promotions is a collaboration between Mark and The Southbound Attic Band’s Barry Jones, former Deputy Editor of the website. Together they’ve promoted a number of events in Liverpool over the last ten years, the largest of which was 2011’s Americana 10, which celebrated Americana UK’s 10th anniversary, and featured acts from the USA (Richmond Fontaine, Mark Eitzel, Richard Buckner), the UK (Danny and the Champions of the World, Jason McNiff, The Toy Hearts), and Liverpool.
Together with Chris Stevens (Liverpool musician and former promoter of Hell’s Ditch events) Mark and Barry have created Acoustic Dustbowl to showcase national and international talent. Each event will feature music in the general field of Americana, folk, singer-songwriter, alt-country, roots, and anything else they feel will appeal to their audience.
Acoustic Dustbowl takes place on the second Friday of the month at the View Two Gallery on Mathew Street. The opening night is Friday 11th January 2013, with an 8.30pm start. It will usually be a ticketed event, with the price dependent on the headline guest, but this first event will be free entry. It’s hosted by The Southbound Attic Band with special guests including The Good Intentions, Liverpool Acoustic’s Stuart Todd, and local legend Stan Ambrose.
This event is open to all who like original, acoustic music, who are prepared to listen to something new in the comfortable surroundings of the View Two Gallery.

Liverpool Acoustic is the only website of its kind in the UK. It was founded by Graham Holland in April 2008 as a central resource for the vibrant and exciting acoustic music scene in Liverpool and the Greater Merseyside area. The website publishes news from the local acoustic music scene, previews of upcoming events, reviews of music releases and gigs, and the Liverpool Acoustic Spotlight podcast. This content is available for free via email subscription. The diary lists acoustic events including festivals, theatre concerts, folk clubs, showcases and open mic nights.
