Chester Christmas Lights Parade 22nd November 2012

Although Liverpool Acoustic takes its name and from the city where we’re based, we actually cover a wider geographical area including Greater Merseyside, Cheshire West, West Lancs, and Warrington.

So it gives us great pleasure to tell you about an event taking place this week in the wonderful city of Chester.

A host of musicians from across Merseyside will be involved in the Chester Christmas Lights Parade that takes place in Chester on Thursday 22nd November.

In addition to a parade around the city that features music commissioned for the event and composed by Luke Moore, there will be a number of pockets of different music spread out around Chester’s historic city centre.  Among those performing are singer-songwriter Gary Edward Jones, Wirral based singer Amber Stone and guitar virtuoso Dave Burton.

Amongst these is cello player Vicky Mutch from The Mono LP’s, violinist Mimi Pearce, and violinist Greta Svabo Bech, who sang on the Grammy-nominated DeadMau5 track Raise Your Weapon. Also included on the recording are Mark Jones on flute, Mimi Pearce on violin and Rachael Diop on clarinet.  The music will accompany the annual parade as it moves around the city centre, culminating with Christmas lights being switched on.

In addition to writing pieces for the beginning and end of the parade, Luke Moore has written a piece to be performed by a choir from Chester University at one of the locations on the parade’s route.  The piece involved some collaboration with Kaya, who will lead the choir on the night.

Luke Moore said, “The time scale involved meant I needed to work with the best musicians I could – and they’ve really brought the music alive.  Despite playing cello myself, I had wanted to work with Vicky Much for a few years and I was over the moon to have her on board, plus having Jon Withnall engineering also felt a bit like Christmas coming early!”

It’s been a busy year for Luke, who has written string arrangements for acts including Science of the Lamps, Kalika, Luke Fenlon, Ground Pilots, Andy Cowan and TJ & Murphy.  His entry to the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Competition made the final and will be performed at the View Two Gallery on Friday 23rd November (see article here).

The parade starts at Abbey Green in Chester at 6.30pm on the 22ndNovember.

Other events and activities will be taking place earlier in the day.
